Cannot preview/edit video in create disc screen in UVS 11+

Post by thebluehealer »

Hi all,
I am currently trying out Ulead Video Studio 11+, but I have a big problem with it. I can preview and edit video clips in the timeline, but once I go to the create disc screen, I cannot preview video or do anything. The video controls are just 'grayed out' all the time. Also if i browse my computer for video clips in this screeen, I cannot preview them either. Has anyone any ideas please as its driving me nuts :-( I have worked with Video Studio for years now and never had this problem before. In actual fact I use UVS 10+ and the moment and have absolutely no trouble with it, but I just like to keep up to date with each new release!!

I am running Windows Vista Home Premium, Dual core AM 64x 2 have 2 gigs of memory and have all the latest drivers ..I hope.......

Incidently, I also have the exact same problem with my desktop PC which is still running Windows xp media centre edition , and that has intel pentium 4 in and again 1.5 gigs of RAM.

Can anyone help me out with this problem, as when I emailed Ulead, I was just told to upgrade to directx 10..which is already in my laptop !!

thanks in advance for any help,
Chris

What are the video files you are working with?

Please read the post above re: Read this before posting.

Are you going from your project in the timeline straight to Share > Create Disc, or are you using the Suggested Workflow of first creating a DVD-compatible MPEG2 file (Share > Create Video File) before going to Create Disc?

Ok, I normally record say a TV programme that i want to keep, then put it in the edit timeline and edit adverts etc out..then create a DVD file (Mpeg 2). The once I have enough individual files, I then open up create disc and browse my computer for the files that I have previously converted. Then I add them to my create disc bar at the bottom of the page. In all previous versions of VStudio, this has never been a problem. I can then check how the finished DVD will look etc. BUT in Vstudio 11+ the play area , is always grayed out, and if I am lucky enough to be able to get the 'next' screen to really preview exactly what the finshed DVD will really look like on my standalone DVD player....again all the controls are 'greyed out', and nothing works. Basically I'm doig what I have always done in previous versions, but for some reason it just not work in VS 11+.

I am using Win XPSP2. Updating DirectX solved the same problem for me (and solved not being able to change dvd menu thumbnails)

See quote below (from another thread: http://phpbb.ulead.com.tw/EN/viewtopic.php?t=26658)

Click the "DirectX End-User Runtimes Web Installer" option.

Run dxdiag from a command prompt to check which version of DirectX in on your pc.

Fritz -- thanks for trying to help. However, thebluehealer is using Vista, which does not use DirectX 9, but new version 10, and there is no update patch for that yet.
