I don't own any ULead software right now but I'm tempted to go fo DMF with the HD plug in as I'm wanting to create BDMV's and HDAVC's (as well as HD-DVD's on DVD-R's)
one thing I can't find about the HD add on is:
What files does it allow you to input???
at the moment I have Adobe Premiere CS3 with Encore (BDMV creation) as well as Roxio's BDMV software but neither work as I want them to.
I have loads of MPEG2 files with Dolby Digital 5.1 audio in mpg format, but the ones I struggle with are my mkv 720p files (x264 codec, some with AAC 5.1 and some with DD5.1 audio) as nothing seems to import this highly popular container.
I can split the files into their raw formats (.h264 and .ac3 or .aac) but this takes a lot of time and most software requires me to transcode them first.
Can DMF with HD plug in import MKV files without me having to do anything?
If it can, will it keep the audio as 5.1?
If it can't is this feature likely to be added (MKV is one of the most used containers these days as it's highly flexible)?
Question about HD plug in before buying
If you having trouble creating BDMV disks in Adobe what makes you think that this software will work. Is it the software that's the problem or your hardware not compatible. The BDMV disks burnt to DVD's are usually burnt correctly by this software, it's usually the playback device that doesn't support the format. BDMV is really only for Blu-Ray Disks, not dvd's. You can burn the BDMV format to a dvd, it will play in some Sony players yet put the disk into a PS3 and it only shows up as a data disk.at the moment I have Adobe Premiere CS3 with Encore (BDMV creation) as well as Roxio's BDMV software but neither work as I want them to.
I've found the most compatible format for highdefintion disks with menus & chapters to be the avchd disk. You can play these back in a PS3, sony blu-ray players, pioneer, panasonic and the computer. MF6+ with this hd add-on pack encodes nice h264 via using the MainConcept H264 encoder. You can encode Variable/Constant with Lpcm/Dolby 2-0/Dolby 5.1
I've been converting hd-mpeg2 video to the h264 files using MF6+ with the HD addon pack. The results for HD are excellent and file size is cut in half using variable bit-rate.
What I have noticed using the ulead H264 encoder is that for the given bit-rate the quality of the video is better than others I've used, the others run at a higher bit-rate, also some of the other encoders have to use constant bit rate.
You can't tell without trying it with your particular files, from your particular source. The problem is, there are just too many variations of each format. Since there is apparently no trial version fo this plug-in, you would be taking a risk.one thing I can't find about the HD add on is:

And, it would appear that some video formats are prone to what I call "sneaky corruption"... You'll have a file that plays back perfectly, but causes problems when you try to edit it or make a DVD from it. You might have another file with the same format/properties that works perfectly.
For example, many people have trouble editing DivX and Xvid files, but other people don't. I've sometimes had trouble editing MPEG files (I bought a special-purpose MPEG editor), but other people never have these problems.
