VideoStudio 11.5 - Free Upgrade?

Post by Kaledi »

http://www.ulead.co.uk/vs/special_115.htm

I see that the UK site has a coming soon on a major update to VS11 to VS11.5

Many HD specific updates, and interestingly optimisation for quad core processor encoding.
I wonder if they will finally optimise for dualcore AMD processors - like MF6 patch 2 finally has recently implemented

I don't see how they can charge for this "upgrade" when v11 was supposed to have AVCHD, HD Authoring, and H.264.... :? , but I'm sure they will because of all the "extras" they are throwing in.

Is there going to be a separate (free) patch that addresses the v11 shortcomings so you don't have to pay again for what they should have gotten right in the first place?

Jeff,

That does not appear to be a free update. They are advertising it as an upgrade, which as well all know is not free. If that be the case, Corel releasing yet another upgrade without addressing the bugs, I think they are doing a great job of sinking their ship.... :x :x :x :x :x :x

Ron,

That is what I assume also. What I should have said is how dare they charge for something that should have worked from the very beginning.

That upgrade they are advertising has features that weren't advertised in VS11+ original release. Although I admit the whole ball of wax gets rather confusing. VS11+ original had Mpeg-4 & H264 support.
With this you can create avchd video files directly, burn avchd highdef files & avchd disks that play just like dvd's with chapters & menus except they are in HD (H264 format). These disks are burnt onto a standard DVD. They play in Sony Blu-Ray Players, the computer (fast processor), PS3 etc.

This version of VS11.5 plus is similar to MF6Plus with the HighDefinition burning add-on pack.. That is also an extra $20.00.

These are new features (encoding avc/h264), probably related to that posting about ulead licensing and using the mainconcept h264 encoder & all. Had to cost for licensing fees so that's probably where the cost is coming from. I bought the HD burning pack for MF6+ for $20..00, it works pretty nice for high defintion video. The HighDefintion H264 encodes are impressive.

I will probably pay for it.... even though I'm a way off from using HD video...but the youtube feature alone is enticing

VS11.5 for free?

Post by imschris »

Why are they bothering with a release of 11.5, when they haven't got VS11+ right yet.
I have never been able to import AVCHD clips into neither the library, nor the timeline. It just does not recognise these files. I have tried on two different computers, one running Win XP SP2, the other Vista Preimium, both with high specs and 2GB RAM.
When I asked Ulead Tech support for help, they just referred me to the Forums!!!!
I just can't believe the arrogance. So much for customer support!
Bottom line is that after spending my money to buy VS11+, in order to edit AVCHD clips, I then had to buy another software, namely Sony Vegas, which works without a hitch. AVCHD works equally well in both the Pro 7e or 8, as well as the entry level Movie Studio Platinum 8.
Guys, forget Ulead, buy Sony Vegas.

All software thrive on patches. When the patch becomes too big they call it an upgrade ;); and well, they wait for the hole to get big ! :D

Don't forget they released patch #2 for DVDMF just before offering the 20$ HD pack. I tend to believe a patch will be released for VS to address the AVCHD bug (maybe as well as other bugs) and the 11.5 for 20$ which contain added feature like Blu-ray. I might be too optimistic...

Thie HD add-on pack is nice.
Yes, I believe this is what is going to happen with VS.
Remember that the original releasee of VS11+ had avchd support, as in many other programs the wording support means to recognize the format.

The 11.5 version will allow you to do more with blu-ray, avchd disks & also create the newer standard of HD-DVD's that use pop-up menus (advanced hd-dvd). You will also be able to export h264 video directly from the timeline, standard definition or high defintion. I would guess possibly more features then Moviefactory since VS is an editior.

A patch was released yesterday for VS11 in Japan. We should expect one soon.
