V.11 Crash module dvsf.ax 7.0.0.0

Post by gomactrading »

Program crashes when rendering DV type II to DVD. The crash occurs at 90% rendering of DV type II video file of just over 2 hours. Faulty module is dvsf.ax. Does anyone have an answer/solution?. Thank you.

We usually advise to use Type 1 files, because of the problems some have when using Type 2.

Thank you for the info. The faulty module dvsf.ax which crashes DV type II at 90% rendering seems to be a problem as old as (at least) Version 8 of Video Studio as I found out from some old postings. The suggested converter only does type I to type II not the other way around. I found Version 11 to be the worst of them all regarding problems. The ONLY reason I use Ulead is because it shows filmstrip during editing which is very useful when dealing with editing old 8mm film (which is what I do). If anyone knows of software which shows you the filmstrip during editing, please advise.

Please also confirm that when you say you are rendering DV to DVD that you are not doing this literally i.e. editing your DV then going straight to Share > Create Disc, and then burn the edited project direct to DVD. If so, the conversion from DV to DVD-compliant mpeg-2 will take place in the burning process. Your using Type 2 DV may be just an extra load too far for the burning module.

Or did you mean that you were following our recommended process and, after editing your DV, your first did the conversion to mpeg-2, using Share > Create Video File > DVD?

I use Type 2 DV captured from my mini DV camera almost exvlusively, edit it and then do this latter conversion before burning the new mpeg to DVD, and never have a problem...

Yes I do editing and then conversion to DVD. I know that it is suggested that you do not combine both BUT the problem only exists with type II. Doing the same with type I does not seem to be a problem. And, I never had a problem with either type with previous versions. This is a Version 11 un-addressed issue as far as I can tell.
