Streaky Video Lines

Post by Jeremy Baker »

I just purchased MF6 as a download program (i've used earlier versions as well) and installed it on my computer running Vista. I have tried to create two DVDs so far from videos I edited on Adobe Premiere. The video on both DVDs are riddled with "streaking" every time there is movement on screen. I changed the preset from "No fields" to the proper setting for DV video and no change (except that the streaks look bigger) I never had this problem with the older versions of MF - any suggestions?

What's the file format from Premere?

If you set-up Premere to give you a DVD-compatible MPEG-2 file, and then if you check the box in Movie Factory that says Do Not Convert Compliant MPEGs, then Movie Factory should not alter the MPEG "data" in any way.

It sounds like MF has re-encoded your video. Also sounds like the fielding is wrong.
Make sure to download & install Patch#2 for MF6. This is very important. It's possilbe that maybe MF is reading your videos as being frame-based, don't know.

Install Patch#2 to MF6
Web Site: http://www.ulead.com/tech/dmf/dmf_ftp.htm
Patch# 2 file:
ftp://ftp.ulead.com.tw/pub/Updates/dmf6 ... tch2_e.exe

Also when you make changes to your project settings go back in and double check to make sure they were saved. If you make changes in the compression tab the fielding reverts back to frame_based so make the fielding changes last.

You can also import the dvd, check the properties of the mpeg2 video that's imported (right-click -> media properties) to figure out what went wrong. If the fielding is wrong you have your answer.
If the mpeg2 video you produced from Adobe is dvd compliant it should not be re-encoded unless you edit or trim the video. Maybe the audio properties are out of dvd compliance.

Re-reading you post if you exported a dv file from Adobe it's in DV Type-2 format. The fielding should be lower field first, but sometimes there can be a conflict in the dv codec that Adobe is using versus the one the MF is using. I think your better off exporting a mpeg2 file from adobe that's dvd compliant.
