dvd templates

Post by tails007 »

Hi all. This if my first post here so hello!

I have downloaded and installed a 30 day trial version of moviefactory6. So far i am pretty impressed and am seriously considering purchasing.

I am looking at dvd menus at the moment and i only have 3 to choose from. Is there anymore that i can get to trial as i have seen thumbnails of other menus on the ulead site.

Thanks for all replies.

You need to purchase the full version to get the full range of available menu templates.

I was wondering the same thing about the trial version. I was also wondering if all of the chapter page templates only allowed for 3 chapters per page? Is there a way I can have 4 or more up there on each chapter menu page?

Horrowitz, you'll find that the full version gives you a variety of menu layouts with differing numbers of chapters on each.

You'll also find a number of threads here telling you how to go about creating your own custom templates - here's one.

Thanx for the fast reply! I have been testing out the trial version and think I will give it a try. Since I use a stand-alone editor I am mainly looking for a PC program for authoring and one that will make decent menus and allow me some creative freedom.

Dependant upon your requirements you might also be interested in
DVD Workshop 2.

Although it is a few years old, not Vista compatible, not 16.9 Compatible (Without workarounds found in our tutorials forums) it still remains my favourite DVD authoring program.

I appreciate the tip but I think for the price I'd better start with the other first.

Just to update, I used about 20 minutes of a documentary I shot as a test, took the files from a DVD-R I had burned off of the master tape which was on mini DV. I made a main menu and sub-menu for chapters. Everything burned to disc okay. Then when I played the burned DVD it looked and sounded fine but I noticed 3 jumps in it at seemingly random places. I went back and checked and in the "edit room" I noticed the jumps were there at the exact spots where the 5 clips I used were joined. Did I do something wrong?

For starters, you went about it all wrong. Don't burn the contents of your tape to a DVD, import (capture) from the camera via a firewire connection in DV-AVI format and do your edits on that. After you are done with editing, create a DVD compliant mpeg file and, in a separate step in MF, author the previously created mpeg file to DVD.

Thanx for the fast reply!

That is how I plan on doing the final project but I wanted to just quickly test out the trial version to see if I can get it to do what I want. Which is mainly authoring a decent disc with a nice menu. And so far so good but I still don't understand why it had those jumps when the source DVD looks good. I did load everything as 1 clip. The original DVD disc had chapter marks every 5 or 6 minutes. Could this have caused the problem? And if so then what can I do in case I ever want to edit from a DVD source?

As a side note, my last "hurdle" is to figure out how to "windowbox" a scene (as oppose to letterbox), that is, put a black matt on all 4 sides. Would you happen to know if the full version can do that? Thanx in advance for all your help!
