How about some details about your hardware configuration? The speaker icon only determines whether the audio of a video file is muted or not.

If your referring to a still camera use the software for the cam that you use to transfer images to transfer the video file to you computer. Play the file with MS Media Player to insure it's playable which it should be. Then import it into VS8, right click it to find out the properties then set up a template that matches those properties. FYI this type of footage can be transferred to DVD but it's very troublsome.

If it's camcorder don't use USB, use firewire.

Included in the information we need is what kind of camera you are capturing from; is the USB connection version 2.0 at both ends (i.e. the camera and the computer) and do you have firewire ports on the camera and on your computer?
