ive tried with a video that i made self and it does loaded, but not any of the ones i downloaded.

after the first error comes this message shows up;

These files cannot be added to this project.
These files may be of a unknown file format, the
computer does not have enough memory or the file is
copyright protected.
C:\...\Video music\\movie 1.avi
i can load the audio to the timeline.
the file is in avi format, ive tried with a bigger file and it doesn't have any copyrights so i dont get it.. :?

Do you know the format of the files you downloaded?

You could also try moving the video files to somewhere else in the harddrive.

If you downloaded the file off the internet, it is almost undoubtedly a DivX or XVid mpeg-4 which uses the .avi extension as a distribution format. Your computer must have the relevant codec on it for Video Studio to be able to access it. Can any other program on your computer play the file? If so, see if that program will give you the file properties... and post them here please, as Clevo has already requested.

Windows media player and Nero Showtime can play it, it shows up as avi. (i downloaded it as avi too)
other video editting programs fail to open it too.
ive tried using a program to convert it from avi to avi but that didn't work.
the frame rate is pretty strange, it's 23.98 frames / sec while it shows up as 23/ sec.
i moved it to C:\ , same error

ive heard about codec problems befor, but i dont know where to get the ones i need.

Hi, hi-hi-hi,
Hawhaw, little joke there!
Anyway, the 23.98 framrate is an NTSC frame rate. Unusual but within the NTSC standard and it is not unusaul that some programs may report it as 23.
It is not unusual that the file plays ok in players, editing is a whole different ball game.
The AVI extension only means that it could be any number of files flavours from DivX, through Xvid to MPEG4.
See if you can load it into the VS library then right click for the properties and post here. The windows properties report is meaningless.

YThe link you provided, if it is of video codecs, shows you have no DivX or Xvid codecs on your computer. As I still believe your 'avi' file is really an mpeg-4 file of this kind in disguise, I rest my case...

Also you haven't said where you got the file from and, to be blunt, one of the possibilities the program offered was that it is a copyright protected file.
You could try to find a program called G-Spot (really!) and open it with that to find out its properties.
All in all Ken is right though, much of this is pointless because you most likely have an MPEG4 or similar and they are distribution formats not editing formats.

the G-spot program confirmed it's a MPEG-4 file.

edit: i downloaded the codec from http://www.xvidmovies.com/codec , it's a small program wich changed the FourCC and it worked :)
