I have been using VideoStudio since 9 and now have 10plus. I have a new Canon HV20 which is a true HD camcorder, and am wandering if MovieFactory is better than VideoStudio as far as outputting the video to HD content. I also got a new HDTV to watch my videos on. I just wanted to see if MovieFactory has the same ability when editing video as VideoStudio. I have been very happy with VideoStudio and am very familiar with their timeline and settings.
Also, I create Slideshows on the side for a business, and have been using ProShow Gold to create them. It creates fantastic quality videos, for SDTV. But now that HDTV is becoming way more popular, I am thinking about creating all my shows in the 16:9 format. (which I can do in ProShow, but the quality doesn't seem to be as great for some reason) So I am wandering with the new HD pack for MovieFactory, coupled with my high resolution digital pictures, would that create an even crisper looking slideshow video?
I just would like to get some opinions on whether you guys would think it would be worth it to buy MovieFactory with the HD pack, or upgrade my VS to 11+. Any thought on the subject would be greatly appreciated!!
Thanks.
VideoStudio 10+ vs MovieFactory 6

There is a HD-DVD burning patch on the ulead website for VS10+. With this patch it's the same as MF6+ in the burning module.
You can make HD slideshows in VS10+, when you make a slideshow create the video slideshow as mpeg2 compression 1440x1080 FRAME_BASED. Using frame based makes to big difference. You use fielded video when the source is interlaced/fielded. Pictures are full frame, no motion.

etech, thanks for the response. I am wondering why you would use 1440x1080 when the tv ratio is 1920x1080, from what I understand. Also, what should I size my pictures to. I currently am sizing them by 1920px by whatever proportionate they are vertically. I use Photoshop Elements to batch process all the pics that are landscape orientated and choose them to be 1920px wide and all the portrait orientated pics I choose 1080px tall. Should I be changing this. And because you mentioned no motion, does this include panning and zooming, because most of my videos are Ken Burns style panning and zooming. Is frame based still ok with this. Thanks again for you response!!
webcombo,
Because in your project your settings are usually HDV which is 1440x1080. Resizing is tricky, many times let the program perform the calculations, whatever method you use in other programs just make sure to keep the resolution/quality high.
When you add effects, pans, zooms to pictures making a slideshow it's still frame based, no difference, it would be the same as using a frame based video camcorder.
Mixing a framebased slideshow with HDV interlaced in the same mpeg2 file you would have to then make the slideshow interlaced. This is why I keep them as separate mpeg2 video files thus retaining the quality of the slideshow.
You can use 1920x1080, but you can't mix this 1920 with HDV 1440 video unless you re-encode to one of the resolutions. My choice would be not to recode the 1440 video to 1920. But you can create and burn 2 different resolutions on a HD-DVD with no re-encoding of the videos, no problem as long as they are separate video files.
You should prepare all your videos in mpeg format before going into the burner module. When you go into the burning module it should be from an empty timeline. Then in the burning module you insert your mpeg videos, with the "Do Not Convert Compliant Mpeg Files" switched ON no re-encoding occurs during production of the HD-DVD (provided your prepared mpeg2 videos are hd-dvd compliant).
I keep my slideshows separate from my videos because one is frame based & the other interlaced. If you have "Play next Video" as the playback selection the videos playback in order on the HD-DVD player (or dvd player).

Ulead Video Studio 10 use
I am having trouble with my download of the Ulead Video Studio 10 Plus from Elemnt 5. They sell the Ulead product.
After I download the program online It then installs and I get a message that reads Can not Find Ulead Video Studio 10 Plus ESD.
Do you know what this is?
