Urgent! Need Help with with VS 11
Help!!! I just finished my short film narrative which is due tomorrow. I edited using Ulead Video Studio 11 plus but everytime I need to create the video file or make the DVD Cd the program hangs, windows tells me the program has stopped responding. The video is only 18 min short. I am running windows vista home premium. I really need a answer ASAP since i have to submit this requirement tomorrow!!!!

Why are you trying to convert what started life as NTSC video into a PAL output? Video Studio is not really a TV format conversion program and frankly, like any other program of its type, makes a mess of it. Think about it. NTSC uses a frame size of 720 x 480 and PAL 720 x 576, so the frame width has to be adjusted upwards. NTSC runs at 29.97 frames per second, but PAL at only 25 fps. So nearly 5 frames have to be lost every second. At best, VS will produce a flickering mess which is essentially unwatchable. You need a professional level program like Canopus Procoder to do an effective conversion from NTSC to PAL, but that costs several hundred dollars.
It usually will at least try to produce something, though, so I am somewhat mystified as to why it chokes up in your case.
If your project is going to be played in mostly PAL countries, then you also need to be aware that most (all?) modern PAL DVD stand-alone players have no difficulty playing back NTSC DVDs, though the reverse apparently is not true. So at the very least, I would first be trying to convert your NTSC source material into NTSC format DVD output.
Note also that you have in addition committed one of the big no-no's in video editing. Your original video is Upper Field First, yet your project properties, apart from being PAL, use Lower Field First. Changing Field Order will itself result in jerky, zig-zagging video output, quite apart from the effect of trying to convert from NTSC to PAL. At the very least, you have to maintain the original Field Order throughout the project.

You haven't told us where in the world you live (a PAL country or NTSC) or anything about your work flow, much less how Video Studio might have gotten the idea that its output was supposed to be in PAL format. When you installed it, did you correctly choose your TV system or country? (I personally first choose my country then also choose the TV system. Even though then the choice of country gets greyed out, you can still see that it has selected my home country Australia. So I figure I am doubly protected.)
I am beginning to suspect it may be your work flow -- and I further supect you have gone straight from the editing timeline to the burning module (Share > Create Disc). If you are not already doing so, try the following:
You capture your video. If you want the project properties to match those of the captured video (and you do), then make sure you have 'Show message when insert first video clip' ticked in File > Preferences before you insert the first file in the timeline. Then when you insert that first file, you will get a message box asking if you want the project properties to match those of the first clip. Click 'OK'.
After editing, you first convert the project (as we recommend) to DVD compatible mpeg-2. You do NOT go straight to Share > Create Disc. Instead you go to: Share > Create Video File > DVD and you choose 'Same as Project Settings' or 'Save as First Clip'.
Once you have your new mpeg-2, save your project, then open a new one. Don't worry about a name for it -- the objective is just to clear the timeline.
Then you go to Share > Create Disc, insert your new mpeg-2 into the burning timeline. Make sure 'do not convert compliant mpeg files' is ticked in the middle of the three icons in the bottom left of the burning screen. You should not have to adjust any of the properties in the burn module. Make your menu and burn.
