An disk image file is a disk image file, regardless of the version you used to make it. Its only purpose is to allow you to burn as many copies of it as you like to DVD. For that, you can use the Ulead Disk Image Recorder which came with VS11 (on CD2 or the third [Bonus] file if you have the download version). If you have Vista, just enter 'Disk Image Recorder' in the search line. If you have XP, then it will be found in the XP Menu item where VS11 is located as a separate sub-item.
You can also burn .iso files to DVD with other programs such as Nero.
Personally, I prefer to make a DVD folder (Video_TS) instead of a disk image file. That is because, after preparing it, you can preview it in a software DVD player like Win DVD or PowerDVD to make sure everything is the way you want it. And then of course you can use it, like an .iso file, to burn multiple copies. However, VS does not allow burning of DVD Folder to DVD. For that you have to use a third party program like Nero.
However, I don't think you can preview an .iso file with software DVD players, though I could be wrong on that and will promptly be told here of that if I am!
