As per subject! Using VS11+ (30 day trial)
Using fade to black inbetween clips is easy, drag and drop effect, but i can't seem to get the first clip to fade from black, and the last clip to fade to black.
I'm sure it must be quite easy as it must be one of the most common ways of starting, finishing a video. But, I've spent 2 hours trying/searching the internet, and I just can't find out how.
Any help, much appreciated.

From the menu where you normally choose "Video" or "transitions" select "Color." Drag a black block on to the timeline at the begining of the project in front of the first clip and adjust its length to suit you. Then insert the "Crossfade" transitions in between the black block and the first clip and you will get "Fade from Black.
Do exactly the same at the end of the project only this time the black block goes after the last clip and you get "fade to black."
