My motherboard died, and I had to replace it with a new model with new CPU. Now both MF6 and Videostudio 11 don't recognize my DVD burner. The system worked fine before the change. I am running Vista Home Premium. I did not need to re-install Vista because it came up fine with the new motherboard. Facts:
1. The system BIOS, Windows, and other burning software I have see the drive fine.
2. I tried installing a different DVD burner and it wasn't seen either.
3. I even tried hooking the drive up to a Promise PCI IDE controller, thinking that there might be something funny with the motherboard IDE controller, and no help.
4. I tried uninstalling and reinstalling MF6.
5. I have installed Patch #2.
Any ideas?
Thanks in advance.
Can't see DVD burner
If you installed a new motherboard in Vista look under Device Manager. You probably have yellow devices that are just using generic drivers or not working at all.
.
When replacing a Motherboard you usually always need to re-install XP or Vista along with the drivers that come on the disk with that motherboard. An exception would be if you replaced the MB with the exact same one. The disk that is supplied by the motherboard has drivers for whatever chipsets are on the motherboard.
Good Luck, can only assume & make suggestions, it hard to fix a computer without being there.

Thanks for the replies. Per request, more info:
Motherboard: Asus P5K-E with Intel P35 chipset
CPU: Core 2 Duo E6600 2.4 GHz
DVD Burner: Lite-On LH-20A1P (also tried an NEC model)
RAM: 2 GB DDR2
Video card: nVidia GForce 8500GT
Hard drive: 4 misc hard drives
etech - there are no yellow ! points in the device manager. Please note that all my other burning software, as well as Vista, see the drive fine. It seems to be something unique to Ulead's burning module. I installed all motherboard drivers for the new board.
Thanks again for any help.

If you disconnect all your dvd burners MF6 should complain that there are no burners in your system. The program will still run. Maybe running the program without any physical burners will reset some hardware ID's in MF & the system. The physically re-connect the drive again.
I would contact tech support. That's a good MB. Similar to the ones in HP's new machines. (HP machines are customized with limited bios options).
I would search on the subject on this forum & the web. More suggestions on my end are shooting from the hip, don't like doing this.
But, disconnecting the burners and running MF6, or un-installing then re-installing with the burner physically not connected should help you trobuleshoot how MF identifies the burner. I say this because when mine is disconnected I get a notice from MF that no burner is attached. The first time I install & run MF6 it does come up saying searching for drives.
I'm only guessing that you need this "Searching for Drives" to appear again so MF6 can find them and re-assign them correctly.
