Weird sound problem in VS11 and VS Pro X2
I am using a JVC Everio (GZ-MG77EK) hard disk camcorder and have to import its .MOD files into VS11 by hand because the program is incapable of capturing them automatically. (Any chance of this feature appearing in version 12, I wonder?)
So far so good. However, when I move the individual clips onto the storyboard and press Play, the clips play but I get no sound. In order to get the sound working I have to do the following:
- Start the clip playing (without sound)
- Go to the "100" setting next to the little "Clip Volume" icon.
- Adjust it to "99" (or indeed any other setting). This automatically pauses the clip.
- Press Play again. This unpauses the clip and allows it to play with normal sound.
As you can imagine, having to do this for each and every clip is tedious in the extreme and I'd be grateful if anyone could tell me what is going on and how I can get round this problem.
Please help before it drives me crazy!
I should add that once the sound on each individual clip has been "unlocked" by resetting the volume from "100" to some other value, the program seems to remember it and I can switch to the Project view and play all the clips in the storyboard with their sound.

As it says in the message under my signature, it would be useful if people did a search before posting questions. I just did a search using only ".mod" as the search parameter in Video Studio, and got a variety of responses. This one, for instance, might be of assistance: http://phpbb.ulead.com.tw/EN/viewtopic. ... 639#126639
But you might want to look at all the others as well.

Thanks, Ken. I had already done a search on "JVC" "Everio" and ".mod" but it didn't come up with anything that solved my specific problem. I mean, it's so peculiar: why should altering the "100" to any other value suddenly make the sound work?Ken Berry wrote:As it says in the message under my signature, it would be useful if people did a search before posting questions. I am reluctant to adopt a brute force "convert all the mod files to avi" type solution because I am afraid (correctly?) that quality would be lost in the process. And it would really be taking a sledge hammer to crack a nut. So I'm hanging in there, hoping that someone else has had the same problem as me and has found a solution.

I am glad I finally found someone with the same problem that I have. Did you (Wintings) already found a better solution to this issue of having to increase or decrease a little to get sound?

Better to break a nut with a sledge hammer than to not break the nut at all (ancient Chinese proverb). And it would really be taking a sledge hammer to crack a nut.

I have exactly the same problem with my Sony HDV-HC1 camera (the camera used by Ulead to do its comercial !!) No sound in my clips.
Ulead has recognized not to be able to fix this major bug to date !! in other words, VS 11+ is not at this stage a soft that accepts HDV files. That's all !!!
Just way another 18 months ....may be an update

For the record, this bug persists in VideoStudio Pro X2. I still have laboriously to run each and every clip and adjust the volume setting from 100 to 99 in order to get sound to play. Tiresome in the extreme! You'd have thought they'd have fixed this bug by now.
There are 10 kinds of people in the world: those who understand binary notation and those who don't.

To be considered a "bug" I would think it would be affecting a large number of users. You yourself said it is very peculiar and you couldn't find and search results that were similar to yours. You also say this "bug" persists in X2. Did you ever notify Corel of your problem?
