Folks,
Please bear with me on this simple question.
Using the USB cable provided with the camara, I go through all the steps to capture video. The camara is recognized. But when I click on "Capture" alls I get is a blue screen and the counter going as if it was actually capturing. No video is visible and no scene is being placed in the library. What puzzles me is that I did this before using VS 10, using the made cable and worked jus fine.
Another question: I don't get the DV in the format optin menu. It defoults to DVD. The tutorial says I should capture using the DV (DV-AVI) format.
Thanks much.

You should be capturing using Firewire.
I know that Sony and no other manufacturers ever include this in the box but that's what you need to do it.
You will need a firewire cable and card.
The USB is very unreliable for capture and really is intended for downloading photos off the cam or using the cam as a streaming device.

You pc might have a firewire card installed. If that's the case you would just need the cable. If not, you can buy a card/cable at any computer store. The are easy to install.

And first do a Google search on 'photo of Firewire port' so you can see what the connections look like. That way you will be able to inspect your computer to see if there is one already there.
You also very much need to be aware that Firewire has two sizes. Your camera will only have the smaller 4 pin variety (which Sony calls i-Link). The computer normally has the larger 6 pin port. So if in fact you have to buy a card and install it (easy -- just goes in a spare PCI slot on your motherboard), then make sure the cable that comes with it is a 4 pin to 6 pin model.
