What and how are you trying to capture?
If you are trying to capture from an analogue source you are out of luck I am afraid.
There is a known bug in VS11 that causes this to fail.

If you are capturing from an analogue cam then how are you connecting the cam to the computer?
You must be using some kind of capturing device to change the analogue to digital.
Are you using a capture card?

Sorry but I am totally unfamiliar with that kind of capture device. Sit tight and someone more familiar with it will most likely come on and help out.

What was the no joy you were getting with VS10?

This should work with XP, but not with Vista.

The unit you are using to do your analogue to digital conversion is by no means good, so I wouldn't just blame VS.

Have you tried disabling all other apps so nothing is running while you do capture?
Have you a dv cam to try digital capture with the VS? Or borrow one to test?
What format are you capturing as, I think it's mpeg2 with that device?

I see more the problem with capturing through USB.

I'd try the firewire port.
