video studio 10- possible default for project duration

Post by olsonju »

I am working on a video and currently have 199 frames. The project is 32 minutes long. The video will not play beyond the 32 minutes. I am able to add clips past 199 but the video will not play these frames as part of my project.

I've looked in the manual guidelines to see if the program automatically defaults the maximum minutes a project can run.

I hope that I have explained myself sufficiently.

This is unusual.

when you say 199 frames I think you mean image stills? . 199 stills at 32 minutes is 6.2 stills per minute or roughly 10 seconds each still. Which is very resonable.

In a post I read months ago here I think the limit was something like 10 hour video.

Since you are no-where near that limit I suspect it's a resource issue with your PC or a bug in VS I don't ever recall reading about on this forum.

So to help us to help you we will need some more information.

So if you can tell us what kind of stillsyou are using (jpegs BMPs)

Your project settings

your PC system stats

Also, it's worth asking.... is there a red line that appears near the time codes in timeline view?

I too was confused by what you meant by 'frames' but unlike Clevo, read it as referring to short video clips.

Can you see any solid red line above the timeline anywhwere which goes from 0 to 32 minutes? If so, you have set 32 mins as the preview range. To see more, you need to pull the right hand jog bar out to the extreme right of the timeline when, hopefully, the red line will disappear (if it was there in the first place!)

I thank Clevo and Ken. Yes, I used an incorrect term. The frames that I mentioned are video clips and some still images. I do have a red line. It begins at 31:33.26 and ends at 31:45.26. Then the red line stops and the minutes continue. The video runs fine until it gets to 32 minutes.

Here are the spec details:
I have a new laptop- HP Intel (R)core (TM) 2 CPU T7200 @ 2.00 GHz
x86 family 6 model 15 stepping 6, 2000 MHZ, 4096KB

I followed the System tweaks in manual, here is what I found in project preferences:
NTSC drop frame (24.97 fps)
MPEG files, 24 bits, 720 x 480, lower field first (DVD-NTSC) 4:3

I hope that this information will help your analysis. I don't know how to remove the red line...
thank you,
jo

You need to remove the red line and everything will be OK.

To do that.

In timeline view move the time marker all the way to the beginning (00:00:00:00). Then click the "mark in" button under the preview screen.

The red line will dissapear and you can preview all the way through.

And to help you in the future, that red line (the Preview Range) is set by clicking the Mark In or Mark Out buttons when in Project Mode. You probably thought you were in Clip Mode and setting the Mark In/Mark Out for a clip. An easy mistake to make.

I remember when I first did it...(easy to do) and I thought I broke it. Ripped my hair out. learnt how to fix it and avoid it. Now everything is OK.

wow! I am so happy to learn how to resolve this. I would never have been able to figure this out on my own. Thank you all.

I would like to ask another question, I don't know whether I should create a new request. Please tell me if this is not the correct protocal.

Question: I have created 2 of the same project. I want to simply delete the duplicate. The program seems odd because the FILE pull down does not include a DELETE option. I can't figure out how to eliminate something I don't need anymore. I can delete individual video, and images but not the whole project.

Please advise.
Sincerely,
jo

You delete the project file from WinExplorer, not within VS.

heinz-oz is correct.

but...because VSP files are so small anyway I generally keep them, all associated video files and saved final video creations are kept in the same folder.... ( I set it up like this when beginning the project).

This way I have all associated project files in the same folder. Even if it has a few VSP versions of the same project. ( I just like to look at a couple of versions with slightly different ideas to see what creative ideas work well or not)
