Error on install of Win DVD 8 BD-HD
I'm running Vista Ult with a foxconn MB that has the Nvidia 590 chip set. AMD X2 6000+, 2 gigs of ram and an Nvidia 8800gts. All my drivers are up to date. I can't for the life of me install Win DVD for BD and HD. The installer starts to unpack all the files then comes up with an error box that states the following. "this is not a valid system setup will now abort" I've tried everything I know to get this installed. Does anyone out there have an answer? Remember I do have all the proper drivers installed and I have met the system requirements. I even ran the WinDVD system check program.

The Nvidia 8800GTS is not supported. They only support NVIDIA GeForce 8500GT, GeForce 8600GT and GeForce 8600GTS.

Then how come I can play a BD with the WinDVD8 BD/HD LE software I received with my Pioneer Player?. I ran The system check software and it gave me the go ahead. I didn't want to use the cripple ware that came with my player. I new that WinDVD LE worked and the system check was good, so I purchased the full version. Me thinks that WinDVD 8 is broken.jkami wrote:The Nvidia 8800GTS is not supported. They only support NVIDIA GeForce 8500GT, GeForce 8600GT and GeForce 8600GTS.

The version you got with your Pioneer drive does not check for the video card you are using. The full version only works with the specified cards. See this link .

I had the same error with a 7950GT card and it went away when I tried a 8600GT. The system check software just does a general check to see if you can support HD-DVD or Blu-Ray playback.

Versions that are shipped with a piece of hardware are normally specially tweaked by the hardware manufacturer to work with their item of hardware.sapient1 wrote:........

Re: Fudge
There is no way to do so I think.sapient1 wrote:Is there a way to edit the setup file so it won't look for the Video card. Or maybe add my card to the file?. If I can't come up with a fix I'll have to return the software. I like WinDVD over PowerDVD, so I hope it can be worked out. thank you for your reply
Check with Corel Tech Support and see if they could help.

Error on install of Win DVD 8 BD-HD
I got the same error after paying 70 bucks for the upgrade. Wow. I have an 8800 GTS. You would think that the 8600's were the minimum spec. Unfortunately Corel does not post that fact that it will only work with "lower end" Geforce 8000 series cards. I also ran the "Intervideo WinDVD advisor tool" and my system passed. What gives?
This is not a valid system. Setup will now abort...
I also paid $70 for the WinDVD Platinum 8 HD/BD version. I made the mistake of thinking I was future-proofing my purchase, as I do not have a Blu-ray drive at the moiment. I ran the Advisor Tool which like Burtnst showed that everything was OK (including the 8800GTX), except the lack of a Blu-ray drive. OK, so I won't be able to play back anything from a Blu-ray Disc, fine. But, the lack of a Blu-ray drive actually stops the installation (not a valid system error). It appears I have not present-proofed my system, so the lack of the BD drive precludes me from having access to any of the other DVD based and HD files functionality.
Personally, I don't think the installation should fail on the lack of a BD drive, I am waiting for BD drive prices to come down. I also don't want to pay for the non High Definition version now and have to upgrade in 6-12 months time. Also, the advisor tool should not show the 8800GTS/GTX as supported if they are not, otherwise the online documentaion should be updated if they are supported.
Cheers,
Baz.
