VS11 lags and moves VERY slowly!!!!

Post by Sundey »

I still have VS7 installed, as well as DVD Factory 3 & 6. (Have not yet uninstalled older versions).

The VS7 worked fine, and I checked Task Manager when VS11 lags and freezes. The resources are fine, and neither CPU or mem usage is high.
I have a P4 3.8GHz CPU, and 4GB of RAM. I also have plenty of hard drive space, and a very good ATI video card. The OS is XP Pro with all updates.

Anyone else having these lockups and lags? Will there be a SP?

There are a few reports of lags and usually it's because people are running other applications in the background or, in my case, opened and closed other applications while running VS11+

Do a forum search on associated problems with ATI based cards cause I seem to remember some problems with the ATI cards.

Also do you know which version of Directx you are running>

Thanks

Or to re-phrase the latter slightly -- have you updated to the very latest revision of DirectX 9.0c if you are using XP? You will find it on the Microsoft DirectX website and it will currently be dated August 2007. (I just checked: you can find it at http://www.microsoft.com/downloads/deta ... laylang=en )

It will still be called DirectX 9.0c which is the version which has now been out for at least the past two or three years, but it contains a number of improvements which seem to be required by VS11 for it to operate properly or smoothly.

Yes, I have the latest DirectX. I wll see if there is an update to my vid card, and search the forums for any issues with my card. I have a Radeon X1900, with 512MB on board. Thanks for the direction to look. It lags so bad I cannot even work with it.

Wonderful to hear. The only reason I upgraded was because I had to reformat my PC, and I could not find the SN for VS10 that I bought as an upgrade. So, I had to install VS7 (which give me zero issues, but wanted newer version), and then bought the upgrade to VS11. I am very frustrated with the inability to use it due to all the lagging and hanging-up to, say the least.

You must download & install the latest update patches to DirectX 9.0C dated approx June 2007, this is mandatory even if "Dxdiag" displays 9.0c as it's version.
If you registered VS10 with ulead your serial number is listed in their database. You can call them or access your ulead account to obtain your serial number.
When they release the patch for VS11+ it will most likely contain the latest directx drivers, the latest patch to MF6+ which is Patch#2 has this directx update including in it's distribution.

I tried contacting them, and have not had any luck so far. The email address I registered VS10 with is no longer valid, and cannot get logged in using that email address in order to get the SN.

What are your PC specs.

I've only ever used VS11+ on an oldish PC and I only have lag issues when I use other applications in thw background.

LOL! Ok thanks for that.

You shoud have no problems with that set up.

Do you know what processes you have running in the background? (I don;t need a list if you could tell me how many processes.)

Does VS lag from the very begining when it starts? If not, what are you doing when it starts lagging?

Do you have other programs running in the background still open when you start VS?

Did you have any problems during the installation of VS.

Do you know what processes you have running in the background? (I don;t need a list if you could tell me how many processes.) 52 processes.

Does VS lag from the very begining when it starts? If not, what are you doing when it starts lagging? Seems to open OK. Lags terribly when trying to edit a video and/or add audio tracks. I even broke down the video into scenes, so they would be smaller pieces. Not much help.

Do you have other programs running in the background still open when you start VS? Just Symantec AV, corp ed.

Did you have any problems during the installation of VS. - No.

Sundey,
Could you hit Ctrl/Alt/Del and post the typical running processes please.
Whilst Symantec AV will get called to inspect eveything in its search for viruses I can't imagine on a reasonably endowed system it should slow things that much.
What kind of files are you working with? MPEG, DivX, Xvid, DV avi

I agree with Lance. I think more important than you system specs are your clip and project properties.

Please read the first post at the top of this forum, and answer the requested info.
