This is not strictly an inability to capture, but it¡¦s extremely annoying, and certainly needs to be fixed, since transport control was never a problem in VS10
Cameras tested: Canon HV20, Sony HDR-FX7 (Tape based 1080i cameras using FireWire connectivity)
Computer hardware tested: Various systems ¡V common features of the systems (which personally I don¡¦t think makes the slightest difference) are ¡V late model nVidia graphics, high end desktop and mobile Intel chipsets, Intel multi core processors including Quad Xtreme, 2GB of memory, Win XP Pro SP2 updated.
Start VS11+ and go to the capture module / mode. Click on ¡§Capture Video¡¨, then of course ¡§capture Video¡¨ again as you normally would to capture video.
The result is that it takes about 1 minute for the onscreen tape transport controls to become active when the connected camera is a Canon HV20, or up to FIVE!!!!!! Minutes for the Sony HDR-FX7. This obviously means a substantial delay before you can actually start to capture footage from tape.
When the attached camera is Sony HDR-FX7, the following additional anomalies occur ¡V upon pressing ¡§stop capture¡¨, the VS11 becomes unresponsive until the firewire cable is disconnected from the camera. And maximum size of a single capture file is approximately 22 minutes or 4.1GB even on NTFS file system, VS11 automatically starts a new capture file, but capture of a full 60 minute tape will be split into 3 sub volumes. This does NOT happen capturing from a Canon HV20.
Interestingly, DVD Movie Factory¡¦s capture module does NOT suffer the extremely slow response for the tape transport controls to become active. In fact, you can sort of ¡§fix¡¨ VS11 by backing up the ¡§AVcontrol¡¨ directory, and copying in all the files from DVD-MF 6¡¦s AVcontrol directory. However this fix does not fix VS11 becoming unresponsive after pressing stop capture when capturing from the Sony FX7.

Sony HDR-HC1 with VS10 no problems with capturing. With VS11 I cannot capture.
Error message: Unable to swith to Capture mode. Check if your video caputer driver is working properly.
I use Vista.
I also cannot view the video on tape in VS11, although I can see it on my camera lcd. No problems in VS10

UVS9 would not even recognize my Plextor device, but UVS11 starts to record with playback, then just playback stops after a second or two. Record counter still runs, but when the tape stops and I stop the capture, I get a dialog claiming the file is corrupt and will be deleted.grandoak wrote:How about bring back support for the Plextor M402U capture device, which worked fine in UVS 8, but has not worked in any susequent version of UVS?
I've only been able to capture with UVS8 SE, which I believe came with the device.
This is under Windows XP SP2 fully patched on an HP zx5000 notebook with 120 GB HD and 1 GB of RAM.
