Activation questions???

Post by lostinthewoods »

Hello all. I wasn't sure where to post this so since this is where I usually show my face I'll ask here.

My trial version of VS11+ just expired and now I'm stuck in the middle of several projects that my computer is now holding captive. :(

I was wondering, I saw that I can buy VS11+ from corel (a good choice) for $99.00. Or I can buy both VS11+ and photoimpact for $129 (a better choice). I really like to have a hard copy of all of my installed software on hand. That way when the compuker crashes at 2:00am I don't have to drive 20 miles to download VS again on the highspeed. HOwever, I digress.

If I purchase the $129.00 package from Corel. Would I be able to use that serial number to activate the VS I currently have loaded on my laptop or would I have to uninstall what I have and reinstall the version from Corel?

As of right now everything thing that I have saved, captured, edited, etc. etc.. I have allowed the computer to save in the Ulead VS directory on my computer. (the directory located in "my documents") If I have to uninstall and reinstall will all of my files and work be safe during the transfer? Should I move them else where?

Thanks in advance for all the help, it is really appreciated!

We almost invariably recommend against simply trying to activate the trial version using a final legitimate serial number. In other words, it is best to do a total uninstall of the trial version. This is because all too many people who have tried to activate a trial version have had a variety of problems that have often been impossible to resolve.

That being said, it is my understanding that an uninstall of the program usually does not affect the working folder in My Documents. But you might want to do a back-up just the same to be sure.

As for the rest, we often also recommend that if you can wait (and want to pay the postage), getting the full boxed version might be best. If you go for the download version, of course, back it up to disc immediately, and you might also want to put the serial number into a text file and include that on the same disc.

Simply renaming the folders where your current work resides will do the trick too. When installing the full version, it might recreate the working folder thereby overwriting existing files in it. I'm not saying it will but better safe than sorry. I know if I reinstall PI it will overwrite the EP and, if there is no back up of the current (I keep mine in a different folder and don't have to worry) all objects created in the default location for the EP will be overwritten.

After downloading the full version, copy all the downloaded files to a CD, including all the purchase info etc. That way, in case you need to re-install, you have it all handy.

Procedure??

Thanks for the reply all! I just ordered my VS11+ and it should be here in about a week.

Before I uninstall the trial version that is on my laptop, how should I do this?

If I go to "My Documents"

click on "Ulead Video Studio" inside of my documents

inside of the Ulead Video studio folder I find a file folder named "11.0"

Inside of that file I find all of the temp files for the audio, DMF_TEMP, DISCLAYOUT_TEMP, Ulead cd-Wave file, and all of my video clips. This folder also contains a few Ulead Video Studio 11.0 documents, these are named the same as I saved the projects that I've created.

What files here should I rename? Would just renaming the file folder titled "11.0"

Thanks for all the help!

Yes -- either just rename the folder, or else copy it and place it somewhere else on your computer. Then, when you install your full version of the program, you only need to copy the original back into My Documents as the newly installed folder would be empty.

One last question..... I promise

Will going to the control panel and "uninstalling" the program be sufficant for reinstalling when I get my new CDs in the mail?

Thanks A million, I can't wait until the next video contest to try to compete.
