I'm capturing video from my Sony HDR-HC1E PAL camera (High Def mpeg2). I didn't think I was having any problems until, in a idle moment, I clicked on the Options button and noticed that the frame rate shows as 29.970. It's greyed out so I can't change it.
Once I get into edit the properties of the captured video show as 25 fps and I have my Preferences set to PAL under the edit tab.
So, PAL camera, PAL properties and PAL is what I want (I live in the UK) so what's with the Capture Options showing 29.97 and, should I be concerned?
Capture options and properties show different fps

OK...this is interesting.
How are you capturing. Are you capturing via Firewire straight through to VS or using the capture software that came with the Sony
BTW..nice Camera!
I found this about the Camera

So I guess we'll need to know what you set the camera to do.HDV comes in two basic versions ¡V 1080i and 720p. The former is an interlaced format like current TV, and the latter is progressively scanned. Although the frame rates differ depending on whether you¡¦re in Europe or the US and Japan (25fps versus 30fps), the resolution is the same across the board. For 1080i, as used by the Sony HDR-HC1E and FX1E, frames are captured at 1,440 x 1,080. But the pixels are non-square, so the 16:9 picture aspect ratio is maintained. For 720p, favoured by JVC¡¦s HDV products, frames are 1,280 x 720, so the pixels can be square.
Software capable of editing HDV has been arriving thick and fast, too. At the professional end, Premiere Pro 1.5.1, Canopus EDIUS 3 and Pinnacle Liquid Edition 6.1 all support it. But the capability is filtering down, with Media Studio Pro 7 and 8 able to capture and edit the footage, plus the forthcoming Pinnacle Studio 10. So even if broadcasters are dragging their feet, HDV camcorder buyers can edit their footage right now. They can then either output it to formats like WMVHD for enjoyment on a computer, or back to tape for playback via an HDTV. The HDR-HC1, for example, offers component video connectivity as well as regular composite and S-video.

Just to be sure I understand...you are capturing fine but when you look at the properties you read different attributes to what you expect from the camera you are using.
While it seems odd that your camera you bought in the UK would be recording in NTSC.
Try this... in File/Preferences .... there should be a check box to set properties to first clip in timeline. Check it, add one of your clips tot he time line and VS will ask if you want the project properties the same as your clip. Click yes.
report back and past your new project settings and also right clip the clip in the time line and paste the clip properties.
It will be interesting to see what you report.
We will get to the bottom of this issue.

Hi, Clevo
I couldn't find the tab in Preferences but when I drop the clip into the timeline I automatically get the prompt about setting properties to match the clip which I accepted.
When I right click and look at properties of the clip (once it appears in the timeline) I can see that the frame rate is 25 (good news!). I will happily paste a copy of the properties into my message if you tell me how to do that!
Thanks for your help with this.
It may be that I don't even have a problem but then why does it show 29.97 on the Capture Options?

File > Preferences > General Tab > Show Message When Inserting First Video Clip. You must have had it checked.I couldn't find the tab in Preferences but when I drop the clip into the timeline I automatically get the prompt about setting properties to match the clip which I accepted.
