Can't add chapters in creating DVD

Well, that didn't work.
I got the latest directX, with no change.
Then I tried saving a mpeg2 and loading from the create disc, it still will not make a menu for me. plus all the chapters I created in the VSP file are lost as well. I can do it now with my Sonic software now that I have a mpeg2 file, but I shouldn't have to.
But, beside this problem, I did try trial versions of PowerDirector and Priemere Elements, and they both worse than VS that I can see. PD looked good, but crashed hard and often. And Elements does not automatically
detect scenes when I read in a tape, so that is out. The software with my Panasonic works, but has few features, same with Sonic. So VS seemed the best for the money.
maybe.

I had the previous mentioned problem with generating chapters, but I was able to solve these problems with the mentionen installation of the latest dirct X(August 2007)-update.
My problem is, that I can only find one small scene menu, one text menu, and one thumbnail menu, and not the huge amount of menu-pictures shown at the video studio 11 preview in this forum from sjj1805.

The first time I installed DirectX 9.0c from a Microsoft web page it didn't work. I now installed it again from a different Microsoft web page and am able to create chapters. Install DirectX 9.0 from here:
http://msdn2.microsoft.com/en-us/directx/aa937788.aspx
Click the "DirectX End-User Runtimes Web Installer" option.
Run dxdiag from a command prompt to check which version of DirectX in on your pc.

I had a similar problem with Vista on this end. Out of desperation, I found, downloaded, and tried running a full version of a DirectX update from Microsoft that was released in the summer.oz4me wrote:It makes you lucky Ken because for some reason your VS 11 works where it seems 90% of people in here seem to be having trouble with being unable to edit Chapter menus with edit button greyed out and when the time line of the auto chapters is used the programs crashes. I am not totally convinced it is JUST a Vista problem either because I loaded up XP on my system (dual boot) and find that EXACTLY the same faults occur so it may be a hardware problem with certain combinations of hardware. I see others have the same problem with XP as well.
It sure is frustrating
Something in that update is obviously meant for DirectX 10...it has to be. In Ulead 11, I could not proceed past the screen where you would click a button to add chapters. The timeline below the monitor window was greyed out, and the button that would take you to the next screen was greyed out as well...the "create disc" function was useless. However, as soon as I ran that DirectX update, the problem disappeared and I could use the software as it was intended.
I've observed this same behavior with two computers now...my original system, with a 2.6 ghz P4, which ran Vista Home Basic, and my new system, a 2.4 ghz Intel Quad Core, which came with Vista Home Premium. In both cases, installing that DirectX update from Microsoft corrected the issue immediately.

Wai2 -- from reading the SDK release notes on http://msdn2.microsoft.com/en-us/directx/aa937788.aspx , I get the impression that the August 2007 DirectX SDK is supposed to be mostly compatible with Vista -- though it is noted that one aspect of the special audio set-up may currently be incompatible with some audio drivers on certain (not all) computers running Vista. The XAudio feature, after all, is said only to be beta. Future releases are said to be more fully compatible with Vista. I think a lot of us would be interested if you could report any problems you might encounter which can be traced to the SDK.
However, from the rest of it, I cannot see what the SDK might affect in VS11 for users with Vista.
Moreover, and this could be important, I think the SDK may be different from the End User Runtime update which *does* seem to improve the operation of VS for users with XP and which updates DirectX 9.0c but not DirectX10 which is of course the Vista version.

What version of VS11 do you have? If its the download version, then the extra templates etc should be in the second (Extra Content) file, the link for which should have been sent you by Corel when you purchased the program. With the full boxed version, have you checked CD2? I don't have the boxed version so hopefully someone who has will be able to confirm where the extra templates etc are found.

reinstall
This is an interesting point, I am working with a purchased copy of VS11, that was installed on top of a trial version of VS11+. Maybe this is the source of my problem (i tried reinstalling directx.. no good). I am thinking I should remove VS11 and reinstall, but how do I retain all my folders and settings? I think I have found a folder which has this but I would hate to mess up, has anyone else tried this?
Fixed for me!
I was having the same problem. I downloaded Directs X 10. Everything is fixed!
For Now.
