Hi,
With VS10+ it's possible to import VOB files but not in VS11+. This message appears when I try to import VOB files : "unable to open xxxx.vob. File format mismatch."

This is correct. The only version of VS that allows importing the VOB files is VS10.
That being said you still can import the video contained in the VOB files. You would use the Import DVD Folders. I'm not at my home PC, so I'm not accurate on the actual command. However this is done by the same method use to import/insert video files from a DVD.

Figured I'd comment.
Even with VS10 importing VOBs, it still didn't handle them correctly - hence the drop of this feature in VS11.
Several VOBs have a segmentation in them, and importing them directly without removing this segmentation creates problems, and incomplete edits. Nightmares to be blunt.
Forget importing of VOBs and definitely don't think renaming them with the .mpg extension is going to help. Instead, use an app beforehand - such as Nero or TMPGEnc that removes this segmentation and properly remuxes the VOBs into an .mpg file. This is quick and lossless and eliminates many problems.
You can then use this .mpg file into VS for your editing.

I had a nightmare with old 8mm converted to VOB file footage. I used a conversion program called 'SUPER' and converted it to mpg ( it converts anything to anything!!)

Worked a treat !!
