I am looking to buy a DVD-making software. I downloaded the trial version of Ulead moviefactory and now my dvd-rom drive says the driver has a conflict and does not show up as an available drive. It says the device driver failed to initialize. When I boot the computer in Safe Mode, the drive works, but when I boot in regular mode, the drive doesn't initialize. My brand of drive is MATSHITA UJ-832D. Can anyone help?

I have never heard that MF disabled a drive. I have MF 4 DC and MF 5+ as well as NERO installed. Never had a problem like yours. A hijacked drive would be invisible to MF but still be seen by Windows.
I think it's a coincidence that the drive stopped working at the same time you installed MF. Try to tackle the drive problem from within Windows.

The first thing to try is Windows "System Restore" to just before your DVD drive stopped working correctly. Then install MovieFactory again.
I have had occaisions where after making a change to one of my computers - whether it be installing or removing some software - that a DVD drive has suddenly become lost. Windows reports having a problem starting the device drivers. From my experience it is a difficult one to try and solve and spent many hours searching through the internet for various solutions. The one that works (other than re-installing Windows) is System Restore.
The problem appears to be a random hiccup and if you then repeat the steps you made leading up to the lost drive it normally does not repeat itself.
