Capturing from a DVR

Post by kelleen »

I have just downloaded the trial version of VS11plus and would like to know if you can capture video from a DVR thru S-video? I tried using the capture - Analong TV, but it gives me the message "unable to connect to Haupage TV card driver".
Maybe the trial version won't do this?

Version 11 has a bug that will not allow analog capture, even when going thru a digital device. They have reported that a patch should be out soon.

Use the WinTV2000 software that came with your Hauppauge card. It's almost always best to use the capture software that's specially made for your software. Once you have a digital A/V file on your comuter, you can use the video editing and DVD authoring software of you choice.

One other thing to watch-out for...
You may have trouble editing the MPEG files. I have a Hauppauge card, and I ended-up buying the Womble MPEG editor. I frequently got "lip sync" problems, and sometimes crashing after editing the MPEGs (cutting, splicing, adding transitions). This does not hapen with every MPEG file, and it may not happen to you at all. Some people are able to edit MPEGs without problems.

So, I frequent use THREE different programs, one for capture, one for editing, and one for DVD authoring & burning!

The Hauppauge card came pre-installed from HP, I was able to capture from another program - but it crashed and won't work (again).

so, when you say to use the software that came with it....how do I find that? this is all new to me.
