XviD Mpeg4 plug-in

Post by Gra »

Hi Guys
A while ago I downloaded the Ulead MP4 plug-in so I could up-load to You Tube, etc.

As the Ulead plug-in doesn't offer some of the settings (such as MPeg audio layer 3), I downloaded the XviD plug-in. That plug-in now appears in my project setting options. However when I go to output my finished project as an MP4 file, the XviD plug-in does not appear as an option; only the Ulead plug-in is there.

Is there any way to get the XviD plug-in to appear as an option?
Thanks & regards.

You don't need any plug-ins to upload to YouTube. I have done it, with excellent quality, using a WMV file. Just to prove the point, I took some 6 minutes of raw, unedited, DV footage at random, warts, over-exposure, noises and all and converted it to wmv 320x240 25 fps, using the MSP Create video feature. This produced a file of about 13 Mb, if I remember correctly. You can see it at http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=zBYogs9g7f0

I suspect that if you converted it to XviD, the quality would not be as good, depending on your settings.

MP3 is not a standard audio system when divorced from the video. If you do a search on this board, you will find explanations why I say this but this is why I recommend imported MP3 never be used in a video project without prior conversion to WAV.

Hi devil
Thanks for that (and the footage looked good - I assume that's outside your frontdoor in Cyprus!? ) I'll try a couple of tests as a WMV and see what happens.
Thanks & regards.

Hardly outside my front door! It was all taken in the Turkish-occupied part of the country; I live in the free part of the country. I have to cross the Green Line (actually shown in grey on the map):

I live a tad to the left of the L of Larnaca in the foothills of the mountains. The shots you saw were in Famagusta, Salamis, a little N. of Famagusta, the burial place of St Barnabas, close to Salamis, Kyrenia and in the hills N. of Morphou.

Hi Devil
Apols for delay in saying thanks for the reply (day job got in the way). Thanks for the putting up the map and the regional info. It seems amazing we have an UN buffer zones and an occupied part of an EU country (which is both terrific and historic countryside). let's hope the current negotiations with Turkey solve the problem and soon there are no lines or check-points to cross.
Thanks & regards.

Don't we all wish it ! But it has been a divided country since 1974 with 1/3 of the country under Turkish military control. I don't see either the Greek-speaking and the Turkish-speaking Cypriots easily coming to terms with the Turkish (non-Cypriot) military in my lifetime. The new Turkish President Gul is not helping any and I suspect that the Turkish hopes to join the EU will never materialise as long as they continue to occupy part of this island. To be fair, all three sides are digging their heels in and won't cede a millimetre towards a compromise. It's a very complex situation. What would be the worst thing would be if the UN decided to no longer fund the cost of manpower in the buffer zone: that could reignite the tinder box. However, that's off-topic: sorry. As Moderator, I should delete this thread!!!

... Be dreary old forum if we can't roll off topic occasionally and learn a bit more about who contributes.
Thanks & regards.
