PI Error Opening JPGs

Post by kmb63 »

I'm using PI 12 and have recently encountered an "unable to open file" error when trying to open JPG files. The error is accompanied by the number "800:93:1450" but I have no idea what this means. These are normal, non-corrupt JPG files that open in other editors just fine. In fact, a lot of these JPGs were originally created in earlier versions of PI (versions 8 and 11). This just started recently. It does not happen with all JPGs, though. I'd say 5 out of every 10 I try to open give me this error, but I can see no difference between the ones PI will open and the ones it won't.

Any help would be greatly appreciated!

800:93:1450 Error PhotoImpact 12
Hello - Today is August 20th, 2015 and I am now experiencing this same exact problem with PI-12 when trying to open some jpeg images.

This machine has Vista x64 Home Premium. The problem is only with certain jpegs. I have PI-12 installed on another machine running Win7 and the exact same files open fine on that machine. I tried everything and finally decided to recover the entire system back to a system image I created back in April. Everything went fine with the recovery and voila PI-12 back to normal - opened everything. But then....Here come the windows updates and sure enough after getting all my updates (important one only - always) the problem re-emerges. This next part is probably important. I did not notice this problem until just after the most recent MS Updates which were released on August 11, 2015 just last week. So I'm thinking it's a windows update problem. I sure hope someone here knows a fix for it. I'm going to try the free trial of X3 and see it that works. If it does then I may just have to buy it just for this old Vista installation. I'm betting there is a registry tweak that may work but I don't have a clue what it would be. Thanks in advance for any help.

Update - I downloaded the trial version of X3 and it opens the files that 12 would not. It's got to be an issue with the most recent windows updates of August 2015. The original poster's OS is not shown but the only system I am having this issue on is Windows Vista Home Premium. I am not having this issue with PI-12 on my Windows 7 Machine.

As I said to a previous poster, try running the programmes in a compatibility mode.

Trueblue – That works. LOL However LOL. I have already gone out and bought the new NOVA PI Pro 13 and guess what – it had the same issue. The Vista Compatibility Mode menu list Windows Server 2003 and prior back to 95. Choosing Windows XP (Service Pack 2) fixes the problem in both versions. Thanks for your help. I should have known this. I’ve had this issue before in the past with other software’s and maybe even this one – Dugghhhh right?

There is no such thing as a 'new Nova X3 pro'........Nova are only distributors of PhotoImpact which is owned by Corel. No versions past X3 have been developed and never will. The sofware is no longer supported by Corel. We do keep a forum here to help those who have PhotoImpact.

Always run an old softare like PI in compatibility mode.
