Post by Thetracer »

Hi guys, just got this program afew days ago. Spent all night making a video for a College project. When I got to burn it, the thing stops about 10 seconds in. With the Unspecified error coming up.

I have got many MPEG videos and JPEG/Bitmap images. Also a MP3 audio file.

Please could someone help me, I need to hand it in tomorow.

You haven't given much data but here are some things to look at.

1. Workflow: When you have completed the editing part of the project go to Share/Create Video File and select DVD. This will render the project to a DVD compatable file. (Remember where you put it!)

2. When you have the DVD compliant MPEG file go to File/New Project. You are not really starting a new project, the purpose here is to clear the timeline. Then go to Share/Create Disc. When the burning module opens load your MPEG file and start the burn following the steps.

3. A side note. VS may also be choking on the MP3 file, they are not always standard. If the above fails (actually I would do this anyway) with the project in the timeline go to Share/Create Sound File and output the soundtrack of the whole project to a wav file. Then import that sound track back into the project and mute everything else. Then do 1 and 2 above.

Unspecified error

I'm also new to this program but seem to be getting the hang of it slowly...

I had the unspecified error too - my problem seemed to be with the '3D' transition effects. There's a series of posts regarding this problem - once I removed all of my 3D transitions and replaced them with others it worked fine.

Just to add that my video files are from a mobile phone, I converted them to MPEG from 3GP format. Also when I render the movie to create a video file, I try to open it up and watch it. However it jams up after the first 2 seconds and there is no naivgation options (in VLC player)
Any thoughts?

When you converted from 3GP to MPEG originally was to a DVD compliant set of paramaters?
What are the properties of the MPEGs you are using? Right click and select properties then post back here.

I am not sure about the DVD compliant set of paramaters thing, I used Xilsoft 3GP video converter software.
By properties do you mean this..

Type of file: VLC media file (.mpg)
Size:1.27MB (1,337,344 bytes)
Size on disk: 1.27MB (1,339,392 bytes)

EDIT1
PS:MPEG files that were converted from 3GP files, the sound was out of sync when they were converted, this happens if they are converted to any other formate also, eg AVI.
So I do have AVI files, with the same error... I dont know if trying to make this with the AVI files would make a difference? As in just replacing them on the timeline... or would I need to start over again.

EDIT 2
I tried to render it again, this time the created video file is playable. So now its just a matter of getting that fancy menu, is there a way to get the menu etc on a video file? with out having to actually burn it on a DVD?

Ok lets get real here!
The 3GP files are incredibly compressed. Now don't be fooled by the word compressed. Compression mainly means "throw away" stuff to make it smaller.
What you are trying to do is not impossible but close!
You have very, very compressed, low quality, small frame size and unusual frame rate video which you are trying to convert to MPEG. MPEG is also a high compression format and, like 3GP, was not designed to be edited or converted at all. They are both distribution formats.
Anyway so lets say you get the 3GPs into MPEG. Now VS is trying to get the MPEGs up to some sort of DVD compliant spec which will be a frame rate of 25fps for PAL and 29.97 for NTSC, a frame size of 720x576 for PAL or 720x480 for NTSC. Where are the extra fames andpixels for the frames coming from? Getting the picture?
Your original footage is purpose designed for display only not for what you are trying to do and you will have all sorts of problems with out of sync and playback.
Unless someone else comes on with a more intimate knowledge of how you could do this I am afraid I cannot offer anything else. Sorry.
