VS11+ Sees HV20 for editor but not DV to DVD Wizard
I am new to this forum so if this topic has been discussed I apologize.
My problem is that my VS11+ sees my Cannon HV20 just fine (although slow) for the VideoStudio Editor for capture and editing, but does not see my HV20 if I want to use the DV to DVD Wizard? Is there a setting I am missing to set?
Second Problem. All my DV video captures from my VS9 that are on my computer are read with a large distorted color line through the clip when I try to play or edit it with VS11+. The clips look just fine in VS9 but don't in VS11+. Do I need to do some kind of conversion to make them play correctly in VS11+?
Thanks.

That's a nice camcorder you have there.
1) I have never used the DV to DVD wizard so I cannot answer the first query
2) We'll need more details about your Video Settings and project settings if you could kindly read the Announcement with the title (read this first) and reply with the answers here it gives us more information to help you with.
Thanks

Cheapo, the DV to DVD Wizard is exactly what it says! You don't have DV you have, well really you have the object of my desire, the HV20!
Although it does record on to what we would call DV tape it does not record using the DV AVI codec. You are recording in fabulous high definition MPEG2 so the wizard is not for you!

Thank you Iancecarr. Yes, this is my first High Definition camcorder and I too like the HV20 very much. My previous camcorder was the Sony DCR-TRV315 a digital video on to Hi8 tape. I usually would tranfer whatever I shot onto a DVD using the DV to DVD Wizard to basically archive a copy of what I shot. I thought I could possibly do the same thing with the tape I shot from the HV20 but it looks like I won't be able to do it that way. The wizard was just easier and quicker.
Soon I will see what I can do with 24p footage shot with the HV20 in the VS11+ editor.

No, the original poster here was specifically referring to an automatic feature of VS called DV to DVD Wizard. His problem (hardly a problem from my perspective!) was that the DV to DVD Wizard only works for Standard Definition DV cams.
The rest of the features of VS would be available to you for editing in HD.

thanks pelase confirm
thanks... but I want to confirm because it seems like there are issues out there... and I don't want to make a 1000 mistake...
If I film a concert in 24p mode. Will I be able to slice and dice that concert afterwards? Will it retain the "film" look.
thanks!!

I own the program
I am a registered owner of the program. I am trying to decide whether to order the camcorder. I need it for an upcoming event... but if I buy it, record...and then am not able to edit, I will be out of luck.

The Canon records in 24p but wraps the frames in a sequence (alters the video), to record in onto tape in HDV mode. So some frames are progressive and others are interlaced. You need software that can extract the progressive frames out of the HDV stream either on the fly as it's being captured or after the video is on your harddisk.Soon I will see what I can do with 24p footage shot with the HV20 in the VS11+ editor.
Originally i thought it was using 3:2 pulldown but was told it's a different embedding method.
I guess the HV20 doesn't have an internal downconvert in it. On all the Sony cams you put the cam into HDV->DV downconvert and work with standard defintion. The Sony cams will convert the HDV to DV and output DV on the firewire port. The downconversions are very good.
