HDV or AVCHD - which is best for editing ?

Post by pyvo »

Still thinking of upgrading to high definition...
and wondering what camera to buy.
The current preferred choices are all from a famous Japanese maker:
HDR-HC7 (HDV on miniDV cassette), HDR-CX6 (4Gb MSPro stick) or HDR-SR7 (60Gb HDD).

Whilst UVS and UMSP claim to be compatile with both
HDV (HD on miniDV) and
AVCHD (compressed HD for HDD, DVD or memory card cams),
is there a difference when considering video editing ?

If AVCHD is more compressed than HDV, are the results of a video edit still acceptable ?
If HDV is less compressed, are there issues with system constraints ?

The PC is a PIV HT with plenty of DDR and HDD running on WinXP but upgrading is a possibility.
The soft is UMSP7.2, UDMF 5 and sometimes but rarely UVS (Corel, please don't bin UMSP ! )

p.s. any feedback on High Definition video editing on Vista ?
