You may have a conflict with some other burning software. "Drag & Drop" burning software like Nero InCD, can cometimes "take-over" the burner.

If you have other burning software, you can try disabling it.

Or, you can "burn" your project to your hard drive, and then use your other software to copy the VIDEO_TS and AUDIO_TS folders from your hard drive to a DVD: When you get to the burn Window, check the box that says Create DVD Folders, and un-check the box that says Create To Disc.

When you burn the disc, set-up your other burning to make a video-DVD. If you copy the files/folders as regular data, they might end-up in the wrong physical sequence and the DVD won't play back correctly.

Thanks for replying. I tried to uninstall nero but still I'm getting the same problem. I'm using DVD Movie factory version 3.5. Suite. When I try to edit disc it says 'the disc must close first session continue?' after pressing ok it says 'a generic error has occurred make sure the burner is ready and try again' I still don't understand whats wrong with it. Any help would be appreciated. Thanks.

I am having an "almost" similar problem...
I have been using either DVD Movie Factory 2 or Movie Factory 3 for the past 3 years making DVDs with NO PROBLEMS !!! AND NOW I CAN'T BURN ANYTHING WITH IT !!!
I have tried makign Video/Audio folders and doing a Copy Disc, I have tried making the "ixb" image file and burning a disc, I have tried using my "internal" DVD burner, I have tried using an external DVD burner, I have tried different brands of DVDs !!! NOTHING works !!
When I try to use the INTERNAL DVD burner, I get a "Failed to Burn Data to the Disc" error, and when I try to use the EXTERNAL DVD burner, I get a "Power Calibration Error", which I know is NOT the problem !! That damn power calibration error message is a bunch of crap...
I tried UNinstalling Roxio Easy CD/DVD Creator (because one of the FAQs on Ulead's site said it might be causing problems) and that made NO difference either... What has "changed" on my computer that it doesn't work anymore ?!!?!? ARRRRRRRGGGHGGHGHGHGHGH!!!!!
Could it be a "windows update" screwed up everything ??

The Ulead website and the "moderator" above both mention "DISABLING" your "other" burning software. HOW IN THE HELL DO YOU DO THAT !??!
Plus, Roxio Easy CD/DVD Creator has been on my machine all this time and I never had any problems !! Like I said above, I even went so far as to UNINSTALL it, and I still have the burning problem !!

HELP !!!!!!!!!!!

generic error

Post by marko68 »

Now the program work but when i try to burn a dvd i receive an generic error from windows. I have disabled all other burner programs, the dvd burner is ok because it is working with every other program; the dvd support that i use are high quality and absolutely error free. The problem is that in my desktop, that is an old Pentium 4 everything is working fine and i can burn the dvd with movie factory. In my laptop with a new Intel 2Dual core the program is not work properly, so I think the processor is the problem

You haven't told us what the generic error message is so can't comment on that problem.

If you have other burning software on your computer that is functioning then why not simply burn the DVD to a hard drive folder and then use the other software to burn to disc?

I do this all the time because I like to give my completed DVD a final quality check with a software DVD player such as PowerDVD, WinDVD etc.
I might also give the completed DVD some further minor tweaking with either
MenuEdit or PGCEdit before committing it to disc.
