I need help please. I'm using a Geforce FX 5600 VIVO card using Nvidia's WDM driver and i'm trying to capture VHS to cpu so I can burn it on DVD. I'm using the RCA composite cables. I got it all working but my problem is sometimes there's a huge cutoff in the middle(white screen) of the screen from left to right. Does anyone know why this happens?
Does anyone know of a better way to capture from VHS to Cpu? I could use a camcorder but I don't know what a firewire is, so I probably can't connect the camcorder to my cpu.
Any help would be appreciated.
Edit: n/m, i think i have a firewire port.
Help please, white screen in middle during capture!

That's false MV rearing it's ugly head (providing it's not a commercial tape
). There's a couple of solutions, there's a older WDM driver v1.08 that has no MV protection, this worke at least on 5950 so unless they changed the cards drastically it should work. You won't find it on Nvidia's site but there's plenty of copies floating around the net.
The other solution is getting a video enhancer such as the ones Sima makes, these are hit and miss and if your dealing with real MV forget about it.
The last solution is full frame TBC such as the Datavideo TBC-1000, it removes errors from tapes producing great captures. In most cases it will improve your captures overall removing jitter, even making tapes that untrackable playable again. Some of the high end JVC models also employ a TBC but it's not quite the same as the Datavideo.

This is an ongoing problem with all capture devices including DVD Recorders, some are more prone than others. I had a tape that was uncapturable using either a ATI AIW or a 5950 VIVO, the same tape captured fine using a Canopus ADVC 110.
