Help with simple ? technique

Post by SaxMarc »

Hi folks-
I'm trying out VideoStudio 11+ and have what I think should be a couple of simple questions-
I want to be able to dissolve (I guess it is called crossfade) from a clip on the timeline to a clip on the overlay track while the audio continues from the main clip on the timeline, then dissolve back to the clip on the timeline. (In the old days of analog editing, that would be called dissolving to B-roll then back to A-Roll). Apparently there is no way to do this? Do I need to use Media Studio to do something like this?

Also, I need more than 2 audio tracks, since on some clips I have wild sound, voice over, background music and sound effects during the same clip. Other than pre-mixing in another application, can this be done in VideoStudio, or, again, do I need MediaStudio?

Thank you in advance for your advice and counsel.

IN VS you cannot put transitions in overlay tracks

Though I haven't tried this personally the work around would be to:

Slip in some black colour between the 2 A-rolls

in the overlay track place the B-roll and set it's attributes to fad in and out.

you can then play around with the length of the black colour inbetween the a-rolls and time it for pretty much the same effect.

Looking at at what you need, VS is not the way to go. You are wanting to edit video and audio on multiple tracks, something VS is NOT designed for. I'd go with something more suited for your end means.. BTW nice site..

Thank you!

Sorry for the delay in replying; I was out of touch for a few days.

It appears from the responses that VideoStudio is not the program for me. I'll have to see if another program has the features I need.

Thank you again.

Obviously it can be done a lot easier with MediaStudio but you CAN do it with VideoStudio. Look at the link that Jeff (BlackLab) gave you above.
You will find that the thread mentions 2 alternative methods to do this.

Steve is correct, you can do it, but, you have to do it several steps. Like do step one, render that out, import that into a second project.. etc.. Which in itself isn't that bad of a workflow. I find I do that anyways in MSP. Totally depends on what your end results want to be, how quick you need to finish the project, and many more variables.
