Dear All
Can anyone advise please?
The other day I burned a disk and sent it to someone that has a home DVD player and it didn't play! The DVD recorder I use to burn is an NEC ND-1300 and the disk I used was a TDK DVD-RW (1-2X for 2X recorders), so it should have played across most branded DVD players. We don't actually have a home player as I play our movies through a laptop onto the TV.
Are there some output settings I'm overlooking? I set up to burn to DVD and it had four chapters. I turned off the quick release check box (sorry if that's not the exact name - doing this from memory) when it pinged up as it said it would allow the disk to play across most DVD players (and the rendering took the usual long time to perform). The resulting disk played fine on the PC's DVD drive and the laptop into the TV.
According to my quick scans of this Board it seems it should have played but I'm obviously not doing something right. Any thoughts on what I'm doing wrong would be very welcome.
Regards & thanks.

Hi Gra
Dvd-R were the original discs and have the dvd logo. They should play on all dvd players.
Dvd + R were produced by a consortium of manufactures, as competition I suppose.
I do not know what difference there is, if any.
Dvd-/+RW’s are re-writable, can be used more than once, but not all players support them.
Although it is a very good idea to use a RW to test your movie prior to burning to Dvd-/+R
As to your question :- Dvd -/+R are more compatible than RW types.
You can buy discs on line and are much cheaper than the local shops.
Check out these two:-

Just to add a little more to what Trevor has said - not all MAKES of disc are compatible either - you may have to experiment a bit with discs from different manufacturers as well to find a fully compatible combination, often buying the cheapest discs can be a false economy. but I would certainly agree with him about the actual DVD player - my cheap unknown brand seems to play everything - but the Toshiba which I paid a great deal for seems to be quite fussy.
