It usually has something to do with the menu building process: you may have overlapping buttons, menu fade in/out effect, bad audio file. You will have to due a process of elimination to find it.

Or if you are going straight from editing your project to the burning module (Share > Create Disc), instead you should try going to Share > Create Video File > DVD when you finish editing. This will produce a DVD-compatible mpeg-2 of your project.

You then start a new project (File > New Project). Don't worry about a name -- the objective is merely to clear the timeline. Then you select Share > Create Disc to open the burning module. Its timeline should also be empty.

Use the Add Media button in the top left to browse to where your new mpeg-2 is located and add it to the burning timeline. Make sure 'do not convert compliant mpeg files' is ticked in the middle of the three icons in the bottom left of screen. This will avoid any conversion of the main video during the burning process which is often a source of problems.

Otherwise, as Black Lab has already suggested, it will be a process of elimination to work out which aspect of building the menu might be causing the problem.
