moving parts of movie along with titles overlays..

Post by dijego »

sorry if this has been asked, i cant find it the board is huge.. i am sure it had been because its basic thing

however i can get to find the way to do this.. i ll try to explain like this:

timeline view

Video Track 1 2 3
Overlay Track 1 2 3
Title Track 1 2 3

ok, the 1, 2 and 3 are segments. I want to move segments to make this

Video Track 3 1 2
Overlay Track 3 1 2
Title Track 3 1 2

But i can only select segment of ONE track at a time with my mouse!
So, when i move segment 3 in video track i get this:

Video Track 3 1 2
Overlay Track 1 2 3
Title Track 1 2 3

this is probably confusing but i cant explain better at the moment
sorry for newbie question

and i cant move them one by one, because i will have to make timing again for each segment, i want them to move as entity

You cannot re-arrange the order of clips in different tracks all at the same time - after moving clip 3 in the Video track just move No.1 & 2 then 3 in the Overlay track - then move clip No.1 & 2 and then 3 in the Title track - takes seconds to do, in fact propably quicker than invoking some function (not yet available) to try and do it all together.

Actually, you can. Hold down the Shift key as you select clips on each track, then drag them where you want.

Doesn't work for me Jeff, I can do the Shift+select bit but with or without ripple editing I cannot move a video in the top track with other tracks also selected.

That is strange. I just tried it again. I put 2 clips (called A & B) in the main track, 2 clips in the overlay track, and 1 title. I Shift+clicked on the first clip (A) in the main track and on the title clip, and was able to move it behind clip 2 (B) in the main track. The title clip moved with clip A.

EDIT: Aha. Seems this only works if there is nothing else in the timeline, in any track, at the point you want to place the clip in the main video track. If that makes any sense. :?

ripple editing!
now, combining with shift trick black lab said i am managing somehow through my editing.. and dont ask me how :] i m moving a little back a little forward, still something has to be done manually.. oh well i guess i am to blame because i have strange inspiration.. i m doing middle of the movie and still hadnt done the beginning ;]
