Hi everyone,
I am looking for ideas (themes, concepts) for an end of year pop warner team video for 9 year olds. Last year was easy as a successful season yielded numerous big plays, everybody was able to run the ball, etc....hopefully we will see some of that in the remaining games. To date however, the boys have not scored a touchdown in four games and, obviously, not had much of any success.
I am looking for different ideas that I can take our actual game footage (and or stills), mix with some stock stuff, special effects, etc...and give them something to remember. For example, last year, in addition to video, I did a fast action, high impact photo slide show to the Monday Night Football theme. I'll do a chroma key intro of each player with something fancy.
One idea I had (any thoughts on this?) was that if they actually pull off a victory, take that one game and jazz it up, maybe with announcers, lower thirds, etc....in lieu of all the games from the season.
Really any suggestions that are out of the ordinary would be appreciated. Thanks.

Hi There!
I think the announcer idea is great!.. interview some of the players right there at the game. I teach the computer lab k-5, I do an end of the year video for the 5th graders..present it to parents etc..but one of the things in it last year was our 5th grade kickball tournament..Winner plays the teachers. I came up with Sports Chat and did hightlights of each game until the final one. Had the scores at the end, plus scrolling stuff on the bottom of each game like Sports Center etc...music, swipes...now Sports Chat is a hit at school! So its back on the air this year. Could you maybe film a practice and put some of that footage in there? or is that bad
Well good luck! Sounds like a lot of fun and I bet the parents LOVE it!

I'm in a similar situation (as I was last year at this time - our soccer program isn't too good), as my son's team has been outscored 60-something to 4. No, that's not a typo
.
Kids aren't necessarily into just the scores, they also like the hits, falls, moves, and the screw-ups. Keep it short and fast-paced, with up-tempo music. And don't forget those DJ effects
. People are always amazed at how good the team looks - the magic of editing!
You definately have to adjust to each season. My son's school baseball team wasn't too good, and their highlight video was around 10 minutes. On the other hand, his summer team made the playoffs, so I did a game-by-game highlight reel that lasted over an hour.
What's the saying, don't try to make a silk purse out of a cow's ear? Just do what you can with what you have - the kids will love it.
EDIT: I just tallied the scores and it's 83-4
Any of you English or Australian chaps have any soccer advice?

Soccer advice... geeze with that for and against score I think you could some work on defensive patterns.... you could also narrow the goal posts.
The team I support was recently bought by Russell Crowe, the South Sydney Rabbitohs. We went from winning 3 games last year to making the playoffs this year.
A couple of the ways he's changed the culture here at Souths were very practical.
An Aboriginal player expressed an interest in TV presentation and that player now does a weekly interview session with one of the other players. In one episode, and because we also have a few Islander players in our ranks, they asked players to show journalists how to pronounce their names. Vagana (Van-ga-nah), Fa'alogo (Fah- a-long-oh).... smith (smiiiiiiith). They seemed fun to do
Another was a Book of Feuds, before each game Russell Crowe will blow the dust of a Book of Feuds and go through a brief history of feuds we've had throughout our 100year history as a motivational tool. Sometimes other players will read it out...
Anyway a couple of ideas there....

I'm no help either, I helped coach my SOn's U17 then U18 teams, we did rubbish. At that age they all thought they new best, they were all prima donas and all we needed was for them to play as a team.
Our biggest loss was 26-0, our biggest achievement was getting to the cup semi final, we had a fluke first round, won 5-4, then had two byes and lost in the semi 1-0, which was the best game they ever played.
