I've not noticed any serious loss of quality when I've used motion backgrounds.

What settings are you using for encoding?

IRRC, motion menus are encoded according to whatever properties you set at the final stage.

So even if your titles are dvd-compliant, your menu's can be at a different data rate.

Try a lower bitrate. You may be overloading the encoder with the multiple layers with buttons etc.

same problem

Post by Vfreak »

I realized the same problem.

footage on background of motionmenu have
a lower quality.

DVDWS always encodes menu, so I use high quality avi-files as input.

But after encoding the menu has a lower quality.
It seems like "removing fields effect", like a picture without
"anti aliasing". Understand? (my terrible english... ;o) )

You can see it, if the same video (video of motionbackground) is pasted on start of the title (to fade into the title, realized and encoded in videoediting software)

Picture of pre-encoded title is much better than motionbackground of menu. (high quality settings in DVDWS)

I have tried a lot, avi-files in different codecs, with DV or full resolution
(720x576, or 768x576) (I create PAL-DVDs)
Nothing changes....

some tests - same result.

Videofiles as motionbackground
looks like badly deinterlaced.

(try to create a short video including fine structures, text for example -
you will see the effect. Problem is not the encoding. I take the same file for menu and title, both are avi-files, both will be encoded by DVDWS.

Background of menu looks like deinterlaced, title is OK.

I tried every setting of fields, nothing changes.
(lower filed, upper field, progressive, 768x576, 720x576)

I don¡¬t like DVDWS2.0!!!

Every day a new problem and no resolution...
Good ideas for dvd-projects, but some doesn¡¬t work
with this software... (Quality of picture is most important for me)

This menu-quality-problem for example doesn¡¬t exist in DVDWS1.3!
I have tested it! (with the same source files)

Back to DVDWS2
... some unexpected:

take a still frame as menubackground.
(same properties like the video, some fine structures, text....)

Then create a motionbutton.
The whole menu will be rendered as mpeg-video.
Result?
High quality, the still frame is OK, no "deinterlace-look"
But it¡¬s also a motionmenu, with encoded mpegvideo!

What is different??

Want to know solution?

Footage for menubackground have to be progressive.

Any interlaced footage will be deinterlaced by DVDWS.
(with unbeautiful results)

Mmm ... If it is, wonder if this could be the answer to fuzzy text ?
