MSP 8 delivered without DVD capability

Post by badgerh »

Having, probaly stupidly due to possible demise, decided finally to upgrade from MSP 6 to 8 so I could create DVDs I downloaded MSP8 today after being freed of a good chunk of change only to discover that none of the DVD tools (DVD Moviemaker and DVD Diskrecorder I think) are present. Is this normal? Should I ask for my money back and get something else (DO not really want to relearn as I use it little and MSP8 seems close enought to MSP 6 to make life easy)? I do not require complex DVD authoring - just simple title menus.

Is this normal or is there something else I should download that they did not tell me about? I have tried contacting phone support and email support to no avail yet.

Thanks for any help

The software you mention has never been bundled with MSP. The DVD application supplied is a special version of DVD MovieFactory.

Yes it was that I thought I was referring to. The help says:

After rendering a DVD-ready MPEG-2 file, select File: Export - DVD Authoring and import this file into Ulead DVD MovieFactory to do DVD Authoring, if desired, and burn a DVD. If you want to directly burn a DVD, you can also select File: Export - Ulead DVD DiskRecorder(DVD-VR).

That was what I was referring to - I do not have these menu options.

OK, I assume you downloaded your MSP8. If it is a trial version, then this may be disabled for licensing reasons. If it is a full version, did you install the second file?

OK, sorry, I can no longer help. Somehow, somewhere, you should have a second file which installs on top of the first one, so I believe. Could it be you have missed a link? As the download method has recently changed from a long-standing, reliable, system to a new one, I have no idea of the procedure. Perhaps someone else can help you find this second file?

Many thanks for your help. I will call Corel support again (Of course they know nothing about MSP) and tell them that I should have received a second file. If I cannot get it I am afraid I will have to quit on MSP8 and get my money back.

Thanks again

I believe the second file contains the music libraries as well as the DVD application and probably the sample clips, etc...

When I downloaded the version of MSP8 that doesn't require online activation (which should be the same as the files they're supplying now), I ended up with the following:

MSP8_ESD_Full_E_8.00.0028.exe - 131.2 megs The main program
MSP8_ESD_Content_E_8.00.0028.exe - 429.1 megs The content CD (this is the one you need)

I also purchased the Video Graphics Lab (extra $$$)
VGL_ESD_Full_E_1.00.0027.exe - 139.0 megs

You need the "Content" file to complete your MSP installation - when I purchased MSP, I think the email contained links to both files...

I hope this helps.

Many thanks for that, Al

It seems that I only got the first file. I checked my email and the saved web page and both only link to the first file (With exactly the same name). I will contact support with teh name of the second file and let them know

Thanks

Sounds good... Hopefully you'll make out OK with it...

I believe only the first file is "serialized" - at least, I'm only asked for my SN information when installing that one. The content file seems to pick up the SN entered previously (which means that if you don't have any luck with support, you may be able to use the content file from a different installation).
