Will VS Create VOBs on HD?

Post by G-man »

Video Studio v10 nicely writes IFOs, BUPs, and VOBs to DVD media but not to the HDD. When I re-autheor an existing DVD of a TV recording (IFO, BUP, VOB structure), I cannot use "Create Disk" as the video becomes too large, and no compression is available at that point; so I try the "Create Video File" option, writing to my HDD, thinking I can use DVDShrink later to burn the files onto a DVD disk. But all I get is a file with an MPG extension (won't play on a standard DVD player without the IFOs and VOBs). Re-authoring the MPG results in the same problem. Is there some way to get Video Studio to write to the HDD and create the VOB file structure like it can to DVD media? Maybe v11 has overcome this problem.

In the burn window choose Burn to DVD Folder instead of Burn to Disc.

And just to clarify, this is not a VS11 innovation -- it has applied in all versions of Video Studio I have used going back to VS7 and almost undoubtedly you could do it with earlier versions as well...

FYI - There are only two things that affect file size: Playing time and (combied audio & video) bitrate. If you check the box that says Do Not Convert Compliant MPEGs, your project settings will be ignored (assuming you are using "ripped" DVD-compliant MPEGs) and the bitrate will be the same as the original file. Otherwise, the bitrate is determined by your project settings.
