MovieFactory 4 error ModName: mpgvout.004
AppName: dvdmf.exe AppVer: 4.0.0.0 ModName: mpgvout.004
ModVer: 1.2.9.21 Offset: 000259bb
This is the details that windows gives me after trying to encode an mpg file. Some mpg files work okay. I was getting this error with MF 3. I tried upgrading to MF 4 to see if that would resolve it. It didn't. I have used MF 3 on another computer with the same setup and it works fine. Windows XP SP2. I beleive that it may be the codecs installed. I've tried to mimic the same setup, codec wise, but still have errors on one computer. I've tried other programs, such as Easy Media creator 7 and get errors or the program crashes with the same files.
Has anyone experienced the same issues with MF 3 or 4?
Any input would be appreciated.

Try this for identifying problem codecs. http://www.videohelp.com/tools?tool=Codec_Sniper You can also uninstall them with this app. It should identify all the codecs installed on your systemand their status , much more than what you will find listed under windows.
Careful though, use at your own risk.
Files clean but if used improperly it can screw your comp up pretty bad.

Codec Sniper is a cool tool. I also found MMCompView, which alows you to disable codecs. That still didn't work. I'm still having the problem. I even tried a clean install of windows xp sp1a and still had the problem. I started having the problem when I installed MF 3. I upgraded to MF 3.5 (trial) and it worked. I uninstalled MF 3.5 (trial) and installed MF 3 and the problem returned. That's when I upgraded to MF 4. The problem is still there. I've tried several different codecs to no avail. I have MF 4 installed on my work computer, which I don't want to use, and it works fine with the mpg files that I can't get to work at home. There are other mpg files that work fine. The ones that don't are in the SVCD format that I'm trying to convert to DVD.
Would this mean that my SVCD codec is bad, or I'm using the wrong one. Or is it the DVD codec or MPG-2?

That would depend on what program you use to view the codecs.
Through Codec Sniper, 140
Through MMCompView, 185
Through System Info Gabriel Topala 13 video and 10 audio
Through Windows XP Device manager 13 video and 14 Audio
I'm starting to think it's not a codec problem. I think, maybe, that something's not getting registered correctly when I install MF 4. There is a dll file that should get registered at bootup. This evening, I'm going to try that.

I think this is not a genreal problem since you can get the MPEG files to work in other system, and you can get the problem with other programs.
It would be very hard to find it out if we cannot go to your place to check the PC.
I suggest you to contact Ulead Tech Support for the problem.

Problem solved
Check this out...
I found the solution to my problem.
After changing the video card (and drivers)
After uninstalling/re-installing codecs (video and audio)
After formating and re-installing OS.
and still having the problem.
I took a can of air and sprayed the dust out of my motherboard.
The problem is fixed now. Not getting anymore errors.
thanks for the suggestions!
