Don't want to leave ulead - Do I have a choice?

Post by screwball2 »

Are you sitting comfortably, then I'll begin- I find Ulead the best programme for editing my Digi camcorder stuff. But, since I began using it, after a varying length of time during compiling - rendering - burning etc. the programme crashes. This can be from 1 1/2 hrs to just 15 mins. I love the programme, so lived with it, re-starting and reloading the programme. OK, I lost the last 10 minutes, but soon redone what was lost. I decided to upgrade my computer as it was possibly low spec. I followed guidance by Steve (sjj1805) impecably. I now have a relatively high spec machine with caddy and a 160 gb completely clean second hard drive with just windows xp and Ulead v 9. Sata drive and 1gb mem. have removed unnecessary services, created a video file, de-fragged, reg cleaned etc etc. A better set-up machine would be hard to find! Yet - it still crashes just the same! My videos never exceed 40 mins. Possible flaw or glitch in the programme itself? No, I put the same programme from the same disk on my wifes steam driven laptop (128 mb Ram and very early processor) and it works fine!!!! Has never crashed. Of course, she has only compiled, the laptop would probably self destruct if she tried to render or burn. When she has finished the project I will burn using Nero on my other hard drive (so no, Nero is not conflicting with Ulead!). I would use Nero but can you believe that the facility is not there to fade up and down music/speech! Probably the most important element of video production.
I so want to continue with Ulead but cannot see a way to avoid these crashes e.g. ULEAD HAS ENCOUNTERED A PROBLEM AND NEEDS TO CLOSE ETC ETC. Has anyone had a similar problem? any last suggestions? Please don't suggest ver.11 it can't cope with 9! I don' expect any replies as this is a real toughie.
Regards
Kevin

What video card are you using? I see nothing in your system profile on this. I'd recommend a 3d card with about 256 meg and be sure you have DX 9.0c. I'd start looking there as the probable problem.

I too have this same problem. Man is it frustrating too. I'm running unfortunately I have no idea what kind of media card I have. (if some one could tell me where it is in divice manager I'll gladly post it to my computer stats).

In Device manager, click the + sign next to display adaptors. this will tell you what you have and if it is working properly.

DX9.0c is critical I believe and there are two versions of this file floating around and if memory serves, the one released in July is the preferred one.

My set up is older than this one and VS11+ works perfectly, XP-pro is completely up-to date with updates and I don;t use a thirdparty firewall (I just use the modems FW)

OK - Give in - Just bought Ulead Vers 11 ! Maybe, just maybe this will solve problem?? I'll try anything rather than abandon Ulead. But! if it still crashes, I am going to superglue all the doors shut in Corels offices and play a James Blunt album all day through the letterbox!

Directx9.0c use the one from microsoft website that was released in July.

When using ulead video studio 11+, which works perfectly on my lower spec PC than yours turn off any third party programs running in the background....especially virus scanners/firewalls. Your modem firewall should be enough/OK to run while VS11+.

The answer is use your wifes laptop :)
Hardware problems, very time consuming to troubleshoot.

lostinthewoods,
There are 2 topics in this thread,
Your system specs say Vista, you should have Directx 10.

The original poster is having problems with VS9, now he bought VS11 so he does need to update his directx 9.0c for XP to the latest updates.
