Box vs download

Post by bgm1961 »

Hi all,

My 30 days trial just expired and am going to purchase the MSP8+DVD Workshop combo. I noticed the box version (of the DVD Workshop) is $100 more than the download version.

This begs me to ask the question, at least for MSP8, what is the difference between the box and download versions? I ASSUME there's no difference in the software. I also assume that the box version has a manual (hopefully something more indepth than the PDF manual that you can download)! If I'm right, I'd rather go for the box version. Any answers concerning MSP8?

I'm also posting this question in the DVD Workshop forum to get thoughts on the $100 difference between that product's two versions.

Thanks in adavnce,

Hi Barry
There's no difference at all I know of except you get to play with it in a few minutes rather than have to wait a day or two for the shiny box that needs disposing (and the manual's a couple of hundred pages of PDF instead of hard copy). I'd advise you to go and download the Charlie Hills Book on Getting Results with MSP8 at the same time instead of playing around with the Manual - it's easy to read and it's got some really good tutorials as well for those new to MSP8.

If you do go for the download you can also check the box for a disk copy as well for a few pounds more.
Thanks & regards.

If you get the download version then I strongly suggest that you also follow my advice in this link:
Lost Software and Serial Numbers
The downloads are quite large and so you will also need a broadband or ADSL connection. Whilst it can be done with a modem it would be frustratingly slow.

For what its worth I only ever bought one boxed version, all of my other software has been downloaded.

Thanks for the quick replies.

I guess it comes down to asking the question whether or not I want a printed manual, or a PDF manual? Both of you confirmed that the software is exactly the same (as I suspected).

I'll take your suggestion of getting the Charlie Hills book, so I guess the manual will be a moot point. That makes my decision for me!

Thanks,

Barry

Same reason car insurance costs less if you buy online. It's all dealt with by computer. No raw materials, no people involved, just a nice automated sale.

It's the main reason internet shopfronts are so popular, but not the only reason. The baker next door to my photography studio has the two most miserable, unfriendly people I've ever seen in a "public facing" role. I'd buy my pies from them over the internet (discount or not) if the facility were available just so I didn't have to suffer their Medusa glare.
