Audio and Video out of sync

Post by Nicholas Rumin »

I have been using VS10 and following the "Recommended Procedure for Success with Video Studio" posted here. I capture from camcorder using the recommended settings for Mpeg capture. However, the last dvd that I produced has a significant delay between video and audio. I do recall seeing someone suggesting that the best way to avoid sync problems is to capture in AVI(DV), however, I produced 3 dvd's without problems, and some of them contained a mix of video captured from camcorder and some captured from a PAL DVD :D . Any suggestions?

These "MPEG problems" don't happen every time, or with every MPEG file... Your odds are better with DV.

If you are not using any DVD footage in this project, I'd recommend re-capturing in DV. If you are also using DVD footage, you might have better luck if you convert the DVD video to DV, although at least one person reported that this did not fix their sync problems.

Both VideoReDo and Womble have tools that can repair some MPEGs. I think, you need to "repair" them before the sync problems show-up. I have the impression that "bad data" is thrown-away during re-coding, (or re-multiplexing) and then it goes out of sync.

Another alternative is to use one of the above programs for the editing step. All of my sync problems went away when I started editing with Womble.

Analogue captured video, when it comes in to say a video card for the video and audio card for the audio is captured at different frequency cycles and this can cause out of sync issues when the are joined together.

I think you must have found the old out of date procedure. The current one is
