VS10 Plus Crashes

Post by Spurs »

I need help!!! I am trying to capture data from my Sony camcorder DCR-PC120E. After about 90 seconds of capture VS10 crashes and I get the message 'Video Studio has encountered an error and has to close'. This happens consistently.
I have tried re-installing VS10, but the error still occurs. Has anyone else come across this, and how do I solve the problem?

Can we assume you were using the Firewire (called iLink on your camera) connection? I know your camera has a USB port and the camera comes with a USB cable, but not a Firewire cable, but Firewire is the only way to capture high quality DV from the camera...

I have updated my profile. I have noticed that the same problem occurs with VS9 and VS11!!
The same problem occurs if I simply load VS10 and let it sit for 2 mins. without doing anything. I get the message 'VS10 has encountered a problem and will close'.

I am using Firewire. I get the same problem if I try to use VS9 or VS11.
I have just noticed that the problem also occurs if I simply open VS10 and allow it to sit for 2 mins. It hangs and I get the message 'VS10 has encountered a problem and has to close'.

Can you capture using Windows Movie Maker? Or you could download a very small freeware program called WinDV from windv.mourek.cz/ A number of us here use it for capturing. Then you open in VS for editing. At least by using another program will confirm whether or not it is only VS which will not allow the captures. But if you can't capture using these other programs as well, then it sounds as though it could be a hardware problem, with either the firewire cable or the connection at either the camera end or the computer end.

I can capture using WMM and also the program WINDV.
I did a complete clean installation. When I run VS10 it will be OK for about 90 secs. and then hang. Are you aware of any standard programs that could interfer with VS?

Sorry to ask the obvious, but have you turned off your firewall and anti-virus programs before capturing?

Sometimes you have to use Windows Task Manager to shut most everything in order to eliminate conflicts.

I know Adobe products, as an example, tend to stay loaded on my system after using them and I have to shut them down in Task Manager before using graphics programs . . .

Good luck,
