Sound Lost on Introductory Video Track

Sound Lost on Introductory Video Track
Hi,
I use VideoStudio 11 Plus, and have successfsully created DVDs with several video tracks and an introductory video track before the menu. However, although the original video files do have sound, the resulting introductory track is always a silent video. Can anyone advise me on whether sound is possible on introductory video tracks or not?
Thanks, Don.

Hi again,
Just had a reply from Corel Technical Support that now answers my question. Apparently, any video used as an introductory track before the DVD menu will be muted. VideoStudio is designed that way apparently. Disappointing but at least I now know. Hope that this helps someone else.

I'm pretty sure that isn't the case with previous versions. Just another reason not to upgrade to v11.

I can not beleive this one for one New York second, (which supposedy is a very fast second, however, un-cofirmed, as I don't live there).Black Lab wrote:I'm pretty sure that isn't the case with previous versions. Just another reason not to upgrade to v11.
Come on.. Why would they do that? Has to be a bug that a) the techie has no clue how to answer, or b) an issue on the user side.

I agree. Why on earth would the intro track default to mute with no way to change it. Makes no sense.

Hi again and thanks for your responses.
FYI, the reply from Corel support was:
Do I take it that previous versions of VideoStudio can create DVDs with an introductory track that has sound? I would be grateful for feedback on this precise point. Thanks.

WRT the possibility of a Corel techie lapse or a user error, I can inform you that I have used the same video clip (which does have sound) with and without the introductory box ticked. When it has been used as a normal track the video is recorded with sound, but when it has been used as an introductory track it is recorded mute.Video Studio menu-in are set to have no sound. This means that audio will be disabled upon the menu-in transition (clips before the menu).

The Corel tech adviser clearly didn't understand the question and/or does not know the ins and outs of the program (so to speak). The Menu In transition (and Menu Out) have nothing to do with using a clip as an introductory video. The Menu In and Out transitions were an innovation in VS11, and are only supposed to give an extra touch of pizzazz to a final burned DVD by making the switch from menu to video look a bit more slick. As far as I am aware, though, for most people, the effect only stuffs up the burn of the final disc, so I simply switch it off on the Edit tab of the burning module menu construction page.
But that has absolutely nothing to do with using a video clip as an introductory video on a DVD which is something you have been able to do with VS since I started using it in version 7. However, this is the first time I have heard that it does not carry audio, which simply doesn't make sense, even if a 'normal' introductory clip on a commercial DVD is usually the soundless FBI/copyright warning...
That being said, I have not yet tested this aspect of VS11+, so I am unable to offer any suggestion for rectifying the problem.

Would be nice if it were true. But for one thing, the capture plug-ins which worked well in previous versions has been totally replaced in VS11 with one which will not allow the very common practice of using a mini DV digital camera as a passthrough device to capture analogue source material; or for that matter any capture of analogue material over most Firewire devices. So that is a pretty big variation from the previous working script!!!but all the "mechanics" of the software are the same
Not to mention the trouble so many users appear to be having with various aspects of the new Hi Def/AVCHD aspects of the program.
In fact, I suspect a whole lot more of the program was totally re-written and this is the source of many if not most of the problems people are having with the program...

Hi once more,
After our recent discussions there have been developments of which you may be interested.
I decided to go back to Corel/Ulead on-line support asking them to confirm their previous answer to my question about lost sound on an introductory track, but expanding my question to use the term First Play track in order to eliminate confusion. Their reaction was to direct me to their phone-in support, claimimg that the on-line support was only for "simple problems". I suspect that they don't like having their inadequate answers quoted back at them!
However, before getting round to contacting phone-in support I decided to alter my DVD for a whole raft of improvements. This happened to include the removal of silent black footage from the front & back of the introductory video that does contain sound. This silent black footage was only a hang-over from when it was on video cassette tape, when blank lead-ins were advisable at start of tape. Although I was only really interested in my other refinements, to my delight the introductory track had been recorded on DVD complete with sound this time. As an IT pro, I suspect that VideoStudio 11 Plus is unstable, but that you may be able to work round problems if one only knows its wrinkles. Unfortunately, the manufacturer doesn't seem to know its product.
Thought that I should let other users know my discovery. Over and out.

PS This is not just a caching issue either, as I am fully aware of the need to clear the program's cache to avoid problems from old file content.
