External Hard Drive Rcommendations

Post by cdawley »

With VS 10 is it better to use a USB or Firewire external hard drive? What best goes on the external drive and what best goes on the internal? My primary desktop has 7200 rpm internal and external drives. My laptop has a 5200 internal drive and a 7200 external drive.

Thanks

Depends on so many things.

it's best to have an internal seondary drive to capture to, then if you wish you could transfer material to external drives, which could be either usb2 or firewire.

Best external drive would be esata, followed by firewire, if you wish to capture direct to ext hdd with dv.avi.

If you are going to capture to mpeg, then you may get away with USB2.

If it's just for editing files which come on dvd/hdd/solid state already then whatever you want to buy will be ok.

I have my OS and all my apps on my hard drive, and I capture all my clips to my firewired external drive. I've never dropped frames or any other problem.
