DVD MovieFactory trial does not work

Post by intarsianut »

I've downloaded the trial (TBYB) and when I launch the program it says I have 0 days left and wants an activation which means a purchase. Before I spend the money I'd like to see how the program works. Is it something I've done wrong or is the problem Corel's?
Very frustrating having so far wasted half a day with nothing to show for it. Running Vista Ultimate, with an old copy of DMF version 2. Tried uninstalling both the old software and the current download and downloading again with the same results. About to look elsewhere for new DVD software!

Try contacting Customer Service. (Not technical support... Tech support won't talk to you until after you pay.)

But, I have a bad feeling that they won't help you because the solution might involve how to get around their anti-piracy protection. The customer service people may not even know how how to do it*.

So, if you don't have another computer to try it out on you might be out of luck. I would not recommend buying it if you can't get the trial to work. Everybody is using different hardware, different video formats, and they have different design goals. There is really no way to know if Movie Factory is going to work for you and your particular set-up without actually trying it!

Do you mean you have tried to run a trial version of MovieFactory version 2?
If so then the problem is that version 2 is not Vista Compatible and so you will be flogging a dead horse.

You need to download the 30 day free trial of Version 6 from here:

My first post wasn't clear I suspect, I do have DMF version 2 installed but the problem I'm having is with DMF version 6 TBYB which I downloaded just today. It's the one that says I have 0 days left when I start it and the TRY button is greyed out. Only option is to activate which requires a purchased key!?

I don't know if these suggestions will work but try them anyway.
1. Run As - select Administrator.
2. Failing that temporarily try turning OFF UAC (User Account Control).

I appreciate all the suggestions but so far nothing has worked. Did a complete uninstall of the downloaded TBYB including the deletion of all registry entries that pertained to Ulead DVD MovieFactory. Downloaded the trial again as administrator with the same results..."0 days left on the trial".

Downloaded and installed the trial on an old PC that's running XP SP2 and it worked fine, that's not counting the fact that it runs very slow. The old PC's memory and cpu are not quite up to the task!

Could the problem with the TBYB have anything to do with Vista? If so maybe a purchased copy will also have problems.

Anyone here running this piece of software on a Vista operating system?

Frustrated

AFAIK, it's supposed to run on Vista!

Since your problems are related to the trial versions limitations & anti-piracy "features", I'd say you are unlikely to run into the same problems with the retail version. Running it on XP should allow you to evaluate the features and decide if it's what you are looking for. Of course, you are still taking some risk that it won't work exactly the same on Vista... I'd be most concerned with video capture. Things get more uncertain when hardware & drivers are involved. :?

Search the forum for "Vista", and you will at least get an idea of the problems some Vista users are having. (I don't have Vista.)
