I am running DVD Moviefactory Plus 6 on a computer with 1GB memory, sufficient hard drive space, etc...
I am importing the video from a DVD folder and creating a custom menu. When I go to burn the DVD, it gets to the very beginning of the writing phase and then the program crashes, which also stops my DVD drive from working (I cannot open it to get the disc out, i push the eject button and nothing happens).
I have not had any issues with burning DVDs using MPEGs or any other video formats of that sort.
Please help, does anyone know what the problem is?
DVD MF6 Crashes while burning
It would appear that MF is having trouble with one of your source files. (All of my crashes have been caused by "bad" MPEG-2 files.) A corrupt MPEG file will often play OK, but cause trouble when you try to edit or re-code it. MPEG-4 files seem to cause even more trouble, but I don't have any personal experience with MPEG-4.
It could be one of the audio/video/image files used for your menu. Try making a DVD without a menu (with the same main movie). If the menu is causing the trouble, try less-compressed formats.
If you check the box that says Do Not Convert Compliant MPEGs, and if Movie Factory recognizes the file as compliant, your main movie file shouldn't cause any trouble. If you are re-compressing the file, MF may not be able to re-code it because there is some slight corruption in the original file (or for some unknown reason...).
If you are editing the MPEG (cuting, splicing, etc.) This can sometimes result in a corrupted file (or a more-corrupted file).
